You need a patch of at least the same quality as the item to be patched. If the patch is of the same material it's compatability with the cement isn't a problem. The cement or the adhesive needs to be the best you can get as the quality of any repair is only as good as the materials used.

Repair any cracks or damage to the hull with fiberglass repair kits, available at most hardware stores. Use an overlay prior to the fiberglass if the area is bigger than a quarter so you don't develop a soft spot.
