Hi, your mixer was manufactured in 1947. Hobart does not make public their service manuals. It sounds like the diving key is not engaging first gear with the spinning shaft. This is the ticking sound you hear/feel. This could be because of a broken spring in the mechanism that moves this key in and out, or the key itself has become so worn that it will no longer engage the first gear. The unit needs to be opened up to remove all old grease and oil, including the planetary. The condition of the grease in your description of the planetary, is a good indicator of the condition of the grease in the trans. Your unit probably needs an overhaul due to it's advanced age and grease state. Unplug the unit. You can gently remove the two circular metal dust covers underneath the top cover. With a good flashlight you can view the overall quality of the grease and the level of it. In an ideal world the grease should fill the entire cavity and no oil should be visible. Replacement grease should be Shell Darina EP-2 or Chevron ALC EP-2. You'll need 4-14 OZ. tubes of either type to do the job. The Spec. # for your unit is 3943 Look for drawing # PL-985 Once the cover is off the trans., it's relatively easy to get to the diving key once you remove first gear (the large round gear on top). Remove what you need in sequence, and replace in sequence. If you have a digital camera, take lots of dissasembly pics. When you are done, test in all gears by turning the motor cooling fins with your fingers in the normal direction of the motor rotation. Do not plug the unit back in until you've tested all speeds manually. Good luck! ricardok45

We are moving our restaurant to a new location. Does anyone have suggestions for what to use to move our Hobart 60 qt mixer? Should I use a Hand truck, platform, piano dolly, car dolly? Please give me some ideas. Thank you for taking your time to help us.

I would use the 4 wheel platform dollies and ratcheting tie-down straps to secure it to the dollies.
I have used these to move pianos and other larger objects, but make sure that you secure the object to the dolly and get the best one with the biggest wheels that you can find. The bigger the wheel the easier the roll. Not sure how big your doorways are, but if you can use 2 or 3 dollies, that’s what I would recommend. Just make sure that you secure the load with ratcheting straps not just rope.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

I have a Hobart C-100 and I'm having a problem with it.
I took the speed shifter knob thing out and now I can put it back in but it turns freely. I don't know what to do? and I can't find a diagram that shows how it goes back together.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is common there is a key on the shifter shaft and when you removed it the key came out and is floating in the grease in the tranny ready to destory the gears. That are no longer available at Hobart. if you want the shifter /switch plate off, remove the pin in shifter and the handle thats all. Hobart has a special puller I have two of them but you can use a H type puller to get to the pull threaded holes Mixer should be upside down on head to repair trans.

how to adjust bowl height on 20 qu hobart mixer. It is an old A200 1/3 hp Paddle is to high in bowl and will not mix dough on bottom and sides of bowl
Posted by kevin... on
you need to remove splash shield, tilt mixer back, with a long screwdriver adj. the set screwclockwise to decrease clearance for beater to bowl clearance, always use b beater when making adj. clearance should be .054" to .115".also make sure there are no deformities in btm of bowl which can cause you problems.dont forget to vote

I just rebuilt my a-200. I believe the motor is running backwards. It is rubbing in the back where the motor shaft protrudes and is covered by an aluminum plate. So bad that when I removed the plate and turned it on, the shaft shot out the back. If i am not mistaken it should pull itself in, not push itself out.
I followed the wiring diagram perfectly and verified its correctness.
How do I reverse the direction?
Do I swap the Hot and Neutral?
Posted by Napli1 on
No, do not swap hot and N.
First, verify rotation. As the attachment shaft rotates, it should push the engagement pin into the keeper slot. Looking down on top of the mixer, the planetary should rotate clockwise.
If the unit runs backwards, does it start slow? Can you get it to run either way by giving it a push start before turning on the power? If so, your start switch is not working properly. (Which is my guess) Check your capacitor.
There is mechanical and electronic start switches. (Metal arms and a contact or a little gold rectangular metal can.)
Check it out and let me know what you find -- Mike

be careful here as the grease used has to meet food quality requirements and is not car grease
it does not need to be full of grease , just enough to cover the teeth
go google and type in --hobart food mixer model a200 --and there may be a pdf version parts list or workshop manual
other than that there will be a contact number for your country or area where you can get advice

The timer switch being installed came with the wrong wiring diagram because the mixer did not work according to said diagram. I have an electrical background so reading wiring diagrams is no problem. I just require the correct one.
Posted by dlmorton12... on
how do you know diagram is wrong , you could have wired it wrong the timer kit i belive comes with 3 or 4 different diagrams for that mixer you need to pick the right one
