Hobart H600 Stand Mixer - Page 4 Questions & Answers
My h600 hobart serial #
Usually mixers just like blenders run on a coil system. The coil system is usually such that when you leave the unit on for long periods of time usually about 3 to 5 mins at a stretch the coil starts to overheat. When this coil starts to overheat then it disturbs the rotating mechanism on the unit therefore the system seems like it refuses to come on when you put it on. Usually whe n you restart the unit is still hot and therefore restarting is a problem until it cools down.
Best way to minimise this problem is by turning the unit off intermittently while in use usually after a minute use put of for 10 seconds and restart this should ensure that the unit does not oveheat and restarting wont be a problem.
Hope this solution has been helpful?
Oil
the part# for the oil is102973-71, that can be bought @any hobart office in your area
The start bottom will not stay on it does work
If it has a bowl guard on it then the problem could be either the bowl height switch or the side switch on the contactor. If it does not have a bowl guard then the side switch on the contactor is the problem. If it has a bowl guard, make sure the bowl lift is operating the bowl height switch. The bowl must be all the way up to operate the bowl height switch.

Spindle? Are you refering to the planetary that holds the beater?Sometimes they are froze so bad that they have to be cut off. There are two threaded holes in the bottom of the planetary that can be utilized with the proper puller. The two holes that I am speaking of may still have bolts in them. The bolts are not securing anything, they are just there to keep the holes clean.
How do you add gear oil
The front screw in the top cover threads into a standoff. This standoff threads into the transmission top cover and acts as a fill plug.
H-600 Mixer transmission has a spring on the top
If the shaft has two grooves above the spring. the retaining ring should be in the bottom groove. The nut on the bottom of that shaft should be tightened until it stops turning. If you do not tighten the bottom nut all the way you will destroy the brass gear the first time you run the machine.
The mixer binds in 3rd. gear on my hobart model
It sounds like either your main shaft nuts are loose in which case you can tighten them up. Tighten the bottom planetary nut first then draw up the main shaft with top side nut but not to much. Its possible to overtighten this. You tighten the top until you feel it getting tight then back it off a little. Otherwise you can pinch the gears and everything tight to the shaft by over tightening and your shifter speeds wont work right.
Or If thats not it, Has the transmission been apart recently? Its possible to put that top gear in upside down which will lock it up when turned on. and break additional parts. I'm talking about that two part gear assembly that has the spring loaded diving key in it. Match up the wear points. you should be able to tell which way is up by the wear on top or bottom of that gear.
Hope that helps!
