Hi, one way to fix this is to plug your phone into your computer, once it is plugged in make sure it is off. Then hold the home and sleep buttons until the "connect to iTunes" screen comes up. You can restore and update your phone this way, but it will erase everything on the phone and upgrade to newest OS. You will have to have iTunes and internet.

Outside of cut and paste, you can make an image of the screen with the screenshot feature - hold the home + standby buttons down. If your phone is jailbroken there are a couple of options, biteSMS and SMS2Mail come to mind.

Generally, you'll have to restore from within iTunes http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212 .. Otherwise there isn't a good way outside of a jailbreak and some operating system hacks.

1. Even when your iPhone is locked up, you can still sync it with your computer. Do that first so all your data is backed up in iTunes. If you're using iCloud, you might want to switch it over to your computer for now just to be sure your information is safe.
