How to open case??

I don't know this vacuum personally, but i'll take a stab at is. You're off to a good start prying around. There is most likely a coupld of screws holding things together somewhere. Check around the bottom and sides for holes where phillips screws may be lurking.

Hope this helps. Please rate this accordingly.

Good luck!

Cord is stuck and and will not go back in

Many times the spring that rewinds the cord slips out of a notch or just plain breaks. You'd have to take it apart to find the answer. It's not difficult. The screws to remove the cover are inside the bag compartment and under the buttons. Good Luck!

I put a new vacuum

Make sure the hose is attached securely to the main vacuum body.

Make sure there are no obstructions in the hose or at the hose opening in the body.

Make sure the cover for the vacuum cleaner bag compartment is securely shut.

Good luck.

Cut the string with a knife or scissors and pull it off. You can turn the brush manually to ensure you get it all.

Kenmore 3.9 with power-mate Model 116 2839581.

You have to take off the top of the power nozzel that has the light lense. There are two pressure locks, one on each side. Use a screw driver to release. You will see the screws.Take the two screws out and on some models, there are two pressure locks on the back of the nozzel. Again use the screw driver to release. The top should come right off.Hope this helps.

Have suction, new bag, brush moving but does not

Solved!!!

I went to my local Sears store and the salesman there looked at my vacuum and was able to resolve the issue. There was a piece of wire that had been sucked into the machine that then blocked anything else from being vacuumed up.

Thanks for your help.

Kenmore Elegance Vacuum cleaner - power bar not working

The problem almost certainly is that the axle of the brush in your power bar has dirt/fluff in it that is preventing the belt from turning it so that the fuse in the power bar clicks off after 2 or 3 seconds. It is fairly easy to fix. All you will need is a Phillips screwdriver and about 15 minutes. Follow the following steps

1. With the power bar disconnected from the vacuum, turn it upside down and you will see two inset screws at the rear side of the base of the power bar. Unscrew these two screws using your Phillips screwdriver.

2. With the power bar in the same position unlatch the two plastic tabs at the rear of the power par. [It may be useful to flip up the metal bar that you see on the base to use as a handle] On each side of the base you will see an arrow saying insert screwdriver here to release. Insert a screwdriver and lever the plastic of the base slightly apart from the plastic of the side. When you have done this for both sides the base should lift off.

3. Now lift the brush including the two end pieces straight up. It should just slide up. You will need to unhook the drive belt from the brush as you lift it out.

4.Pull of each end piece and clean the dust, lint, hair off the end piece and from inside the end of the brush.

5.Once clean, reinstall the end pieces on the brush. Hook the belt back over the brush to its original position and slide the brush back into the power bar.

6. Reinstall the base by hooking the tabs from the front of the base into the small openings on the power bar.then push the base down until it clicks back into place and the tabs are back in their original position. Reinstall the two screws you removed earlier.

7. The power bar should now work. Good luck.

Motor on the powermate keeps cutting in and out.

If your talking the motor on the beater bar, then chances are either when the beater bar was attached to the hose near where you hold it, it did not lock, and the connection is intermittent, or the cord has an internal break.

Rollers not spining on my kenmore canister vac.

Particles of the failed belt may be  trapped in the bearings which, if I remember right, aren't very well protected.
I'd remove the rollers, slide the bearings off (if they do slide off) and blow them out with a compressor or saturate them with WD-40 and turn manually until they are free again.

Cannot get belt cover off

Yep, that's a tricky one.

There a part on the top of the nozzle that hides the screws. The best way to describe it is the light bulb housing. You have to squeeze the sides in to release it and pull it off. Then you will see two screws underneath it. When you remove those screws the whole to should come off.

Hope this helps good luck.

Model 116 hose clog?
Posted by rfrazelle on Jun 23, 2008
My old canister model 116 followed with numbers 2839580 marked Kenmore 3.9 with power-mate, worked fine until the bag got overly full. I have changed the bag, cleaned the filter, and removed a nasty hair/fur/dust clog :-p from the lower metal tube of the power mate. It now has very weak suction and won't pick up anything. I suspect a clog in the grey plastic flexible tubing attached to the canister but cannot get it apart. Advice?
RJ

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Kenmore 22313 Bagged Canister Vacuum. The best way to find a clog in an electric hose is to use a steel ball or a large marble to place inside the hose and to let it so threw as far as it can to determine where the hose clog is. Once you have determined where the hose clog is then you can use a small end of a broom handle of take an old wire coat hanger and place a hook on the end and try to pull the clog out of the electric hose – the electric hose is very expensive so try not to damage the hose in any way, shape or form. Or another way is that id you have another canister vacuum you can try to pull the clog apart by using two vacuums turned on and running. If you are successful then run the round marble or steel ball thru the hose again and the clog should be cleared.

May have a problem with the motor protector or the motor itself. The motor thermo protector will shut the motor off if it senses it getting hot. So it could be bad.

Replacing the hose

usually these hoses are glued into the collar, and the only real way to re-use them is to carve the hose/glue out of the collar by hand with a chisel. some will screw out with enough force, but dont break the collars trying. If there is glue it is probably a long shot but you could try some acetone (dont get it on your skin - it is very nasty and absorbs through) - try a little on the plastic first and wait overnight to check that the plastic itself will not be affected, then see if the glue will dissolve out of the join - probably not with the type of glue probably used. Another possibility is that the whole hose and collar are moulded as one piece - if so take it to a workshop with a lathe and get them to try and lathe holes in the collar part for a hose. Sears have proven to be next to useless when it comes to spares, so i would suggest try and find a vacuum repair shop locally and just see if they have a hose that fits hanging about. Hope this helps - please post again if not with a photo - might make it clearer?

Removing and installing the pedal in kenmore upright vacuum cleaner - part no. 8174906; model no. 116.31912100

I don't have specific information on the Kenmore upright vacuum cleaner model number 116.31912100 or the part number 8174906, but I can provide you with general guidance on how to remove and install pedals on some vacuum cleaner models. Keep in mind that procedures may vary between models, so use the following as a general guide:

Removing the Pedal:

  1. Unplug the Vacuum Cleaner: Ensure the vacuum cleaner is unplugged to prevent any electrical accidents.
  2. Turn the Vacuum Cleaner Over: Lay the vacuum cleaner on its back so that you have easy access to the underside.
  3. Locate the Pedal Assembly: Identify the pedal assembly on the underside of the vacuum cleaner. It is usually connected to the height adjustment or other features.
  4. Release Tabs or Screws: Look for tabs or screws securing the pedal assembly in place. Use a screwdriver or the appropriate tool to release these tabs or screws.
  5. Disconnect Linkages: Some pedal assemblies are connected to linkages that control various functions. Disconnect any linkages carefully.
  6. Remove the Pedal Assembly: Once the tabs, screws, and linkages are disconnected, carefully remove the pedal assembly from its housing.

Installing the Pedal:

  1. Position the New Pedal: If you are replacing the pedal, position the new pedal in place.
  2. Reconnect Linkages: If your vacuum cleaner has linkages, reconnect them to the appropriate points on the new pedal assembly.
  3. Secure the Pedal: Use screws or tabs to secure the new pedal assembly in place. Make sure it is securely fastened.
  4. Test the Pedal: Manually operate the pedal to ensure that it moves smoothly and engages the desired function.
  5. Turn the Vacuum Cleaner Upright: Once the pedal is securely in place, turn the vacuum cleaner upright and plug it back in.
If you're uncertain about any steps or encounter difficulties, it's recommended to consult the user manual for your specific model or contact the manufacturer's customer support for assistance. They may provide detailed instructions or guidance tailored to your vacuum cleaner's model and part.
