Kenmore Model 116 PowerMate Jr stopped working

If the roller brush is not spinning freely once you remove it from the Power Mate Jr., then I have discovered the solution! There are end caps at each end of the roller brush. They seem to be permanently attached, but they are not. There is an axle inside the roller that is permanently attached to one of the caps. Take two pairs of pliers, and grab each end cap with a pair of pliers. Then pull hard to take them off. Once they are off, you will find that there is a big glob of hair wrapped around the axle inside. Remove the hair. Then reassemble the brush by putting the end caps back on. Make sure, when you put the caps back, that they are aligned so that they will fit back into the slots on the Power Mate Jr. You have to push hard to get the caps back on, maybe tapping one of them with pliers.

When on the carpet setting,

two possibilites can be thought of , either there is dirt on the system filter reducing the vacuum or the said vacuum level is low.
It will be good to remove and clean up the bag, the pump and reset . Use a good air jet spray but do it out of the house please, use a good face mask as there canbe fine dust within.

When using the vacuum (25812) with the powermate,

Check your lower and upper wand connects for pinkish or blackened evidence of burning. All connections should be shiny clean brass. Polish with wet dry # 600 paper or a scotch abrasive dish pad.

If the junior runs, with its tighter, cleaner less used connections it is very likely the wand connections and mating component, either the hose handle or power head elbow are also burned or badly worn. On a Kenmore, due to the weight of the head and mediocre design they wear in pairs and should be replaced in pairs. You can get some electrical parts thru a Whirlpool FSP parts center or a Panasonic dealer if you take in the matching pieces for clarification

Burning smell from motor...what needs replaced?

Without the complete model number, I don't know for sure what componets you have, most likely is the motor. You will have to take the motor cover off and check it out. You can go to sears.com, click on parts, enter your complete model number, scroll down to cannister and it will bring up a parts list where you can order parts, also a diagram of the cannister.

No suction..says bag full

There is most likely an obstruction somewhere in the system that is not obvious to you. Please inspect all hoses. I have seen a sock in a vacuum line before, it caused these same symptoms.
