all friges or units like this one are auto defrost . the defrost system on most of todays units are controled by aditive defrost systems . but the do fail . generaly the frig will defrost every 8 hr's of comp run time . . this could be every 8 hrs or every 16 . just depends on how hot it is and how often you get in frig . . mm
you need to send the full model number,it's in the fridge section up near the ceiling, you'll see a tag with model and serial numbers,is the compressor running or is it clicking every couple of minutes.if so the start device is probably cooked.unplug the fridge so you don't burn off the pins on the compressor where the start device slides onto.remove the back bottom cover, find the compressor and you'll see a clip, remove it and slide the cover off and then slide off the start device, shake it,you'll hear pieces rattling around inside it and also it will smell burnt.call your parts store, give them the model number and they'll give you the correct device.let me know what you find
Your defrost system is bad. When the unit freezes up, the air flow shuts down and you don't cool. When you turm it off, it thaws out and starts to work again. We have parts so give us a call if you like. Hope this helps! Ella
The freezer will defrost itself periodically depending on the run times of the compressor. This is determined by the defrost timer and will shut the unit off and turn on a heater to thaw the frost buildup. The resulting water is then channeled to the defrost pan which rests on top of the condensor coil under the freezer section or on top of the compressor, (depending on manufacturer design). The tubing to the defrost pan could be plugged or kinked off. You may also need a modification kit installed to keep the defrost drain trough from freezing over. I would suggest you consult a local technician for advice in this area. Also, make sure all doors are sealing properly as an air leak will cause excessive frost build up and will have a tendency to freeze before it can all drain out, then any successive defrost cycles will overflow the trough and run out the front.
Speed, If your model number begins with 596. This is made by Amana with the Kenmore name. Look at your defrost thermostat that sits on the evaporator, see if its bulged. If it is it's more than likley your problem. Part number 12001937. Your heaters should be calrod and seldom fail. Advance the refer into defrost by turing the mechanical timer clockwise until you hear it click and see if the heater comes on. Should find the timer under the control panel, should be a slot you can use a screw driver to turn it. If the heaters don't come on you can temp. by pass the bi-metal by simply cutting it out, connecting the wires and putting it into defrost again. However, it must be replaced. This is a safety device. If the heater now comes on, it's your bi-metal. If they don't come on with the bi-metal by passed, check for 120V at the heater connection. If no voltage, its your defrost timer. Careful in there your working with live voltage...Catriver post back.
Coldspot 106. Model
This model refrigerator is a relatively small refrigerator. It is a Freezer on top model, and Sears documents lists this unit at 18.1 cu ft. I hope that answers your question about capacity.
I'm glad I could help. If you need anything else, just let me know.
In reality, when you buy a replacement, you buy by dimensions to fit the space not cubic feet of the old one. Go to Home Depot armed with a tape measure.

Turn it off by removing the wall plug for 10 minutes. This will do a power rest to the control electronics. This is a bottom mounted freezer, so cold air for the fridge is vented upwards by a fan. Make sure it is running and there are no ice blockages. Strangely they call the fan in the fridge an
Refrigerator Evaporator Fan Motor. The part is obsolete anyway.
If it normally says 4 for the fridge, that would be 4 degrees Centigrade, which means the freezer should show minus 18'C. Or 36'F Fridge / 0' F Freezer/
This shows all the parts.

Not normally a flapper. There is a trap on the rear outside cabinet just below the level of the freezer. Remove it and soak in hot water and bleach for 20 minutes, then flush all the debris out, shake it dry and reinstall.

Put some Vaseline on the O-Ring to help it slide into place. Make sure it is properly inserted at the beginning.
