Kenmore 51lb. Clear Ice Maker - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

Most likely you have a refrigerant leak and there is not enough to freeze the ice. The compressor will run almost constantly trying to cool the unit. Sears repair can give you a better answer since this is a Kenmore unit. They have a toll free number you can call and maybe they can give you a cost estimate so you can determine if you want to fix or replace the unit.

The mechanism that senses when the ice tray is full is not working. Different ice-makers have different sensing mechanisms. I think yours has a thermistor (a temperature sensing device) near the top of the tray to sense when cold ice reaches it. The thermistor could be faulty or for some reason not contacting the ice. The best solution is to remove the ice-maker, let all of the ice melt and water evaporate at room temperature, inspect, and re-install. If you are not comfortable with that, completely defrost your freezer (you will probably have to have your refrigerator off and the freezer door open for a few hours). Ice-makers of all types can get bits of frozen water (ice) in places where it fouls things up, so a thorough defrosting can cure many different problems. There may be slime in the drain line clogging it up... needs to be blown out

First off, check that the water inlet line is clear. Once on a refrigerator ice maker, the part of the water inlet hose inside the freezer ha a solid chunk of ice blocking the flow.

Try not to lay it down.oil will run out of compressor back into evap coil. if you do then when you get to where its final resting spot make sure it sets up with no power applied for 24 hours so oil can migrate back into compressor.

check pump, make sure you dont have a kinked drain line

You do not add freon to these units, they are sealed, no access ports installed from the manufacture. If you are actually low on freon than you have a leak and will just end up in the same place you are now. Some things to note since you have not posted a model number. Does the water come into the reservoir when you first turn it on? Does the water circulate over the freeze plate shortly after it's done filling? Is your condenser coil on the bottom behind the toe plate completely clean of dust? With the toe plate off are all of the components running, like the compressor, and fan motor after your fill time has expired? check to see if your getting voltage to the grid during twice ice sounds like a switch problem

ice machine runs one cycle and freezes ice will not release ice block to wire cutter. then after a few minutes the cleaning light starts blinking

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very,very carefully.
Check Temp inside freezer. It has to be down to about 10 or 15 degrees
This can cause slow ice making if its too high even tho its freezing everything else at 25 degrees
The ref. temp should be about 33-35
The Freezer temp should be 0 to 10 Any thing below these temps is overkill and a waste of elect
The higher the number you turn it up to is the coldest
The icemaker is 110v
See if water is in icemaker.
Pour water in Ice Maker and wait to see if it ejects.
If it ejects thenyou need to replace water valve in rear bottom of fridge(Its the part that
attaches to water line out of wall)
If it doesn't eject then it is a faulty Ice Maker.
If its leaking or no water at icemaker or door either one, then the valve at the rear bottom of ref needs replacing
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if freezer control is turned WARMER, which makes the Ref. colder
Also if it is getting drinking water to the door but not to the icemaker (or vice versa) Then you need to replace
the water valve at the bottom rear of the fridge. It is a double valve and one side is not working
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system.The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater,heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear

Nickle guard is what you should use. Also you should clean around the compressor. Blow out the condenser. I have a service manual for you:

see if you cut it off the bar on the ice maker

Have you got a slow flash or fast flash?
A slow flash is a problem with the sensor.
A fast flash is dirty condenser failed condenser fan.

There is supposed to be a cap or plug , at the bottom of the water bucket , to hold water for the recirculating pump . There is no cap at the bottom of the ice bin .
