Why did my Moen 3838 Castleby Four Function Showerhead suddenly start gushing water from the base when in shower mode?
There could be several reasons why your Moen 3838 Castlebar Four Function Showerhead is suddenly gushing water from the base when in shower mode. Some possible causes include:
- Clogged showerhead: If the showerhead is clogged with mineral buildup or debris, water may not be able to pass through properly, causing it to gush out of the base.
- Leaky diverter valve: The diverter valve is responsible for directing water to the showerhead. If it is damaged or worn, water may leak out of the base of the showerhead.
- Damaged showerhead: If the showerhead itself is damaged, water may be able to leak out of the base.
- Incorrect installation: If the showerhead was not installed properly, water may leak out of the base.
- Loose or damaged O-ring: An O-ring is a small ring that seals the connection between the showerhead and the water supply. If the O-ring is missing or damaged, water may leak out of the base.
It is best to check the instruction manual and troubleshoot the issue or contact Moen support if needed. If the issue is not resolved by troubleshooting, it may be best to consult a plumber or contact Moen support for further assistance.

Hot water coming out of tub slow
Two possible options i can think of.
1) the hot water valve at the hot water tank is partially closed. look for a lever that can be opened fully. the valve could have become faulty.
2) a copper line from the tank to the faucet might be bent somewhere in the middle

Taking a shower could be hazardous to your health if you do not properly and regularly clean your shower head. According to a study at the University of Colorado at Bolder, your shower head may contain harmful bacteria. But not to worry, with some old-fashion vinegar, elbow grease and about 45 minutes, you can take a shower with peace of mind. Clean a Moen shower head while it is still attached, or remove it before cleaning.

Volume 0%Detached Shower Head
Step 1
Remove the Moen shower head. This may require pliers or vice grips. If you use tools, place a towel or rag over the shower head to protect it from scratches and dents.
Step 2
Remove the cover of the shower head, if there is one. The cover may twist or snap off. Do not force it if it seems stuck. This is not a requirement. You can clean the shower head with still attached.
Step 3
Warm the white vinegar on your stove. Do not boil the vinegar. Gauge how much vinegar you will need by the size of your Moen shower head. You need to fully submerge the shower head in the vinegar.
Step 4
Pour the warm white vinegar in a bowl or bucket. Place the shower head in the bowl and submerge it in the white vinegar. Let it soak for 15 to 20 minutes.
Step 5
Clear the holes in the shower head with a paperclip or thin wire. Clear all of the debris from the holes. Dunk and rinse the shower head back in the vinegar.
Step 6
Rinse the shower head and cover with hot water. Re-install the Moen shower head and cover. Test the shower to make sure you have re-installed it properly.
Attached Shower Head
Step 1
Fill a plastic bag with warm white vinegar.
Step 2
Place the bag over the Moen shower head so it is complete submerged in the warm vinegar. Place a rubber band or piece of tape around the stem, securing the bag to the shower head.
Step 3
Remove after 15 to 20 minutes. Take an old toothbrush and scrub off the mineral deposits and debris. Rinse off the shower head thoroughly with hot water and a wet cloth.

Will a Moen 1200 replace a 12801?
The Moen 1222 is the cartridge you want. The 1222 is the OEM number, and the cartridge carries a lifetime warranty. If you call moen at 1-800-buy-moen, they will likely send you a replacement cartridge free of charge. Some wholesale plumbing suppliers will also do it if you act like you know what you are talking about, and they don't have an aversion to "retail" customers.
