Is this an over-the-range (OTR) microwave oven or a counter-top model? Assuming it is an OTR model, your can get to the fuse by first unplugging the microwave, then removing 2 to 4 screws over the grille vent. Remove the grille vent. Depending on the model, you either slide it to the left a little bit (1/4 inch) then pull it out, OR tilt out the top of it followed by the bottom. Now you should see 1 screw that hold the top of the control console in place. Remove it, then lift up on the control console to get past the tabs, and tilt out the top. Now, depending on the model, you may see the fuse behind the control console, or if it's not there, then remove the 1 or 2 screws that hold the metal grill vent that's located above the control console. Remove that metal grill, and your should see the fuse behind it. Sometimes that fuse blows for no good reason, other times it blows because you have a shorted high-voltage capacitor, or you may have a sticking "monitor" door switch. Usually those buttons are on a separate small board. Sometimes that board breaks loose from it's support tabs; other times the buttons just go bad with age and use, and you need to replace that button board. check your door switches.

There should be a technical sheet hidden behind the grille or behind the controller. It will show you how to connect it. The only wire that you can connect incorrectly is the one in the lower center of the board that connects to the black relay next to the small power transformer. Try rotating the connector 90 degrees if the oven is not coming on. Look at my profile picture for more help.

Typical warranty is 1 year parts and labor and 3 to 5 years on the magnetron tube only. BTW, what's wrong with this unit ??

The most likely cause is a defective door switch, there are usually a few to protect critical area's of the microwave oven, if you have a digital meter I can walk you through the testing stage.

I would like to make a warning ,do not try to repair microwaves , they are lethal weapons , I know someone who ran one with the cover removed and cooked his kidneys , if it is faulty dispose and get new, if aluminium foil was put inside it has heated up and as you say damaged paint ,the seal could also be damaged and lethal , dispose and buy another .

yes your diode can keep it from heating but it usually makes a loud growling if diode is bad. there is also another thermal disc on the other side of the oven that could be open. usually can see it in a hole in the plastic with 2 wires. if there is continuity on both this and the mag thermal, you may have a bad magnetron

If everything works, but the microwave oven does not heat, this is commonly caused by a failed magnetron. The magnetron is the heart of the microwave oven and produces the RF energy that is required to heat your food. In order to replace a defective magnetron, you will need to consider the following:

1. You will need to uninstall the oven from over the range in order to replace the part (you will need to do this anyway, if you decide to buy a replacement oven).

3. The magnetron replacement cost will depend upon the MODEL NUMBER and generally costs between $100 and $200.


Use your appliance model number and review the parts illustrations at the recommended websites to identify and locate parts, and to see if this is something that you may be able easily take apart and reassemble.

My Kenmore 721.63259301 would not heat items up so I came here and saw the parts required and was just about to order them when I checked the online owners manual and found this. FULL FIVE-YEAR WARRANTY ONTHE MAGNETRON For five years from the date of purchase, if themagnetron in this Kenmore microwave ovenfails due to a defect in material or workmanship,Sears will repair it free of charge.My microwave has a manufacture date of July 2009 so I will be taking it right to the closest Sears repair center for a free repair. Check the turntable guide to make sure it is lined up properly and that there is no debris caught in it. You may need to re-align or clean your turntable guide.

Cleaning and realigning a turntable guide;

Remove your glass turntable cooking tray from your microwave. Gently wash with warm soapy water to remove any debris. Next remove the turntable guide and clean it in the same manner, with warm soapy water. Pay particular attention to the turntable rollers. There could be spilled food particles caught in the rollers, hindering the rollers' movement. Also, gently cleanse the internal cavity of your microwave, paying special attention to the area below the turntable.

With the internal cavity, turntable, and turntable guide completely clean and dry, return the parts to your microwave. First place the turntable guide on the bottom of the microwave. There should be a circular groove in the bottom of the microwave cavity keeping the turntable guide in place. Follow the guide with the turntable cooking tray. Carefully place the glass tray over the turntable guide and onto the drive bushing. The drive bushing should fit neatly into the grooves on the bottom of your glass cooking tray. It may take some adjusting before the tray will sit properly onto the drive bushing.

Test your microwave after this thorough cleaning and realigning in order to determine whether this has solved your problem. DO NOT run your microwave with nothing in it.

CAUTION: Your microwave oven is capable of giving you a serious electrical shock, even when it is unplugged. We strongly suggest you seek the assistance of an appliance repair technician when conducting any microwave oven repair.

Also, Examine the plastic drive bushing the turntable tray sits on. It may have become worn, or even may have split in two;

Drive bushing replacement

Inspect the plastic drive bushing located below your microwave oven's turntable tray. There may be some debris blocking the tray's range of motion. Clean away any blockage you find, and then test your microwave to see if this has cleared up the problem. DO NOT run your microwave with nothing in it.

However, if upon your inspection, you notice that the plastic drive bushing below the turntable tray is worn and/or broken, you will need to have the bushing replaced. Consult with a certified and experienced appliance repair technician. Replacing a drive bushing is a lengthy and involved process that the average layman should not perform.

At this point, if you end up taking it to a repairman, compare the cost of fixing and the cost of replacing the unit. The price difference will determine whether or not it pays to fix the unit or not.

The problem you are experencing is with you control switches. The cheapest place i can find the switch is from searsparts direct. You will see a diagram in the top left side of the page use it to locate the switches that are bad and order them from sears. You may also need the burners to check them you need a continutity tester.

1. Remove the burner from the socket
2. Take your test and touch one probe to each side of the burner.
3. If you have continunity then the burners are good
4. If not you will have to order burners as well.


Changing the switches:

1. Unplug the range
2. Remove the back panel where the switches are.
3. Remove the knob from the front
4. Remove the screws from the switch you are replacing (Due one at a time)
5. Move the wires from the switch to the corresponding terminal on the new switch
6. Replace the switch and screw in place
7. Do the other switch
8. Reinstall the cover on the back of the unit
9. Plug in and try

Doing all of the above steps should fix the problem that you are having. Please make sure that you install L1 to L1 and L2 to L2 on the new switch other wise you will cross wire it and the rest of the switches will short and need to be replaced.

Hi there,

It sounds like you've activated the child-lock - this would disable all of the digital buttons.

To switch the child-lock OFF, simply press and hold the START button for about 4-5 seconds until "LOCKED" disappears from the display.

To switch the child-lock ON, press "STOP/CLEAR" button once, then press and hold the START button for about 4-5 seconds until "LOCKED" illiminates on the display.

If the buttons aren't working and "LOCKED" is not displayed, then you may have a defective touch control pad.
