KitchenAid fills and drains but won't wash

With a lot of such appliances, the pump motor runs one way to wash, reverse to pump out. Refusal to do this usually is a loose wire, poor connection in the timer, or a wire on wrong. Check the schematic carefully for that.

It sounds to me like a restriction in the pump. I put together some information here on cleaning it out. If you try these please give me some feedback as to if they help or not.

Thanks!

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

Based on your description, I'd say you are correct ( yes I believe most homeowners aka do-it-yourselfers can repair this ). Either one or both of the door link kits/springs broken. It's an easy enough repair, though the unit does need to be pulled out, slightly
.

First, slide the entire unit out from the cabinet a couple or three inches and you`ll see the plastic roller assembly and rope ( except yours is likely broke...at least one by the sounds of your description ) attached to the side.

**You`ll need to insure your connections will allow you to pull the unit out however, otherwise they - water, power, drain hose - must be disconnected to prevent any damage.**

If you have any reservation to performing this repair on your own please call in a qualified appliance technician.

The parts ( # 1059756 @ repairclinic ) come in a kit as I alluded to and will look like what I attached below...

0fda4f0.jpg

These are available at most brick & mortar appliance part locations or on-line vendors such as "repairclinic.com" "searspartsdirect.com" to name a couple.

They range in price for around $20, or you can just purchase the rope/link seperately for about $4 part # 1159210 @ repairclinic.

I recommend replacing the entire kit and checking the spring itself, if it looks ok and not stretched or broke it is likely ok...they are seperate from the kit ( # 830967 door spring @ repairclinic as well )

Hope that helps move you forward. Thank you for visiting "fixya" today. Please take a moment and rate the solution provided here or a testimonial if you feel warranted.

Let me know if you require further assistance and good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

My dishwasher lower basket has some rust. Is there

the paint dose not work well, If the wire is not in a super critical place, I sometimes cut them out and cap them with a rubber coated dishwasher repair kit that I purchase at my local appliance repair shop. You can probably order that on line, I found them here.. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/675679/0022/665?sid=SPDx20101116xGPROD

KitchenAid kudpo1flss dishwashe wont do

Hello,
I have this identical model and have had this identical problem twice now, as the dishwasher is 6 years old. I contacted my appliance parts store and they sold me a thermal fuse. Changed it out, less than $25, worked like a charm. Tech ability needed is 4/10 to disassemble door, rewire fuse, reassemble.

Clean light flashing. dishwasher does not work

Hi If clean light is blinking 7 times then it may be an issue with heater circuit, door switch or wash pump. If yes then please reset the power to the dishwasher. After, 5 minutes check if you are still getting the same error. If yes, then it is a water heating fault. To resolve this error try pressing this reset sequence-- Heat Dry - Normal - Heat Dry - Normal or High Temp - Air Dry - High Temp - Air Dry or Hi Temp Scrub, energy saver dry, Hi Temp Scrub, energy saver dry. Now let the unit run for 2-3 minutes and then you press the Cancel/Drain button and allow it to completely drain and reset. If this doesn't work then it's an issue with the wash pump not pumping the water past the heater efficiently or due to lack of water to heat. Please make sure that heater is not open circuited and is heating the water efficiently. You'll have to check the heater using a multimeter; the meter should read between 3000 to 3300 ohms (Use multimeter on Rx1 ohm setting). If heater is fine then make sure water pressure is optimum and fill valve is working fine. Hope this helps... Please post back for further assistance.

D/W quit

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

The issue you`ve mentioned is actually a somewhat common occurence...at least when one repairs appliances for a living as I do, so I see it quite often.

The actual reason for the murret ( connector) and wire being burnt is due directly to the original installation, specifically the wires within` the murret never being secured properly/tight.

Many people twist the wires together before attaching the murret, that is incorrect. The murret is meant to twist the wires together inside the connector...as stated and illustrated in every installation guide.

I understand your concern since the unit has seemed to operated normally for 5yrs. or so as you`ve stated, but if I can explain it this way hopefully you`ll agree. ( this can be so called "normal" in some peoples opinion...not mine. But the degree in how much they burn or how soon after installation really is dependant on many variables such as how often the unit is operated, the cycles selected and whether hi-temp wash and heat dry is used which require more amp. draw )

If the murret/wire connector ( or any electrical current carrying connection ) isn`t secure from day one it leaves the connection vulnerable to heat, heat which is created naturally through the transfer of voltage aka amperage, however with a poor connection "resistance" is introduced, or should I say increased resistance sine it exists already naturally as well.

If you factor in the reality that the unit also vibrates slightly every time it is used the murret becomes even more vulnerable of becoming loose.

The bottom line is this, I think there is likely very little to be concerned about as long as you`ve insured the connections within the junction box are secured and minimize the chance of the issue re-occuring.

The manufactuer already is aware these things happen, hence the existence of the junction box to begin with.

Hope this answers your question and adds some reassurance to your concern.

Let me know if you require any further assistance. Thank you for choosing FixYa today.

Kitchenaid dishwasher kuds24sewh2. It won't drain

Hi,
  • A clog in the drain line or air gap (if there is one) is the usual reason that a dishwasher won't drain. Often the problem is at the point where the drain line attaches to the garbage disposer or household drain line. If you remove this line, you can clear any debris from the hose or hose connection. Be sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher again.

  • Your dishwasher pump ejects the water. The pump is usually mounted directly to the motor, then attached to the bottom of the dishwasher. You can reach the pump from inside the dishwasher, but first you need to remove the lower rack, the spray arm, and the spray arm support.
  • Look for an impeller--a round plastic fan blade-type of device that spins around. This is the wash impeller, which forces the water through the spray arm. Beneath the wash impeller is the drain impeller, which is similar in size and shape to the wash impeller. The drain impeller pushes the water toward the drain port. These components make up the pump. If any of the pump components are defective, you need to replace them.

  • Many dishwashers use a drain valve with an electric solenoid. When electricity flows to the solenoid, the valve opens and diverts the water to the drain. Sometimes the solenoid, or the diverting lever, sticks and prevents the dishwasher from draining or filling properly. Try to free up the solenoid to lubricate the lever. Otherwise, you may have to replace the solenoid or pump assembly. With these systems, the motor always rotates in one direction. When it's energized, the drain valve diverts the water.
