Ksm 103 on one speed
Remove the back cap over the speed control and look at the speed control plate while operating the speed lever. Make sure the lever is moving the plate in and out. If yes then I would replace the small PCB above the control plate, that is the electronic part of the speed control and not worth very much at all.
Kitchenaid frozen bearing
Hi Thaddeus, What model is it? If you have taken it apart and checked the worm gear surely you would have stumbled on the frozen bearing if one exists. When you split the gear cases you are in a position to turn everything by hand so any frozen part is going to be pretty obvious.

My kitchenaid K5-A mixer will not come up to speed. It doesn't change after speed setting 6. Can this be fixed?
Unplug it and remove and check the carbon brushes one at a time. You are checking them for length, if one has worn short generally is will not have a shiny inner end. It will look burned. If it's 1cm long it's long enough to not be the problem. They are keyed on one corner so make sure you put it back the same way you took it out. You can see the blocking corner if you look into the brush holder with a torch. If that's OK then remove the back cover and move the speed control lever from off to max and observe if things look as "right" as they can to someone who has never seen the innards before. Now plug it in and observe with fingers out of the way while moving the lever and looking for anything unusual while the motor is running. If you see nothing then replace the phase board which is that small 4 wired PCB at the top with 4 wires coming out of it. They are worth not very much at all and if everything else is correct that will solve it. You can replace the PCB without undoing the back plate, you only need to undo the single screw that retains it and the 4 wires followed by a bit of wriggling.

Kitchenaid mixer shorted out.
yes it can be fixed .please don't try to fix it by your own if its expensive but I would recommend to get it fixed by the company or by an electrician
4.5 quart. Why doesn't it turn on?
It is not turning on because the power is not getting through the entire circuit. First easy thing to check is the carbon brushes under the black screw caps on the side. If they are worn out just replace them. They are keyed with one corner shaved off so line the key up with the blocker inside the hole where the brush goes. Use a torch to look in there to see it in one corner right at the bottom. You could also remove the back cover and make sure there are no broken wires there, it's not uncommon for one of the bottom wires to break off by the plate they plug on to.
Grinding sounds
The case screws can come loose and grind on the planetary. To see if that's the problem you need to pop the chrome drip ring off that covers part of the planetary. It's just a push fit, pop off with screwdriver tapped with a hammer.
