KitchenAid KITCHEN AID 5 Quart Artisan Series Stand Mixer - Page 10 Questions & Answers
My Kitchenaid Mixer stopped working. Saw a mention of replacing the thermistor? Or is it the motor or control panel?
Make sure that the carbon brushes are not worn out or if you have already had them out make sure that they have been put back in properly. There is one corner ground off each brush that needs to line up with a blocking corner in the brush holder. Then get your multi meter out and check the unplugged main cable for continuity to the speed control panel. Then check each half of the field assembly for continuity from the speed control plate to a brush holder. Check you have no broken wires to the speed control plate. Check that the switch on the speed control plate is functioning. If all that tests OK I'd replace the phase board, it's worth not much and worth a shot.
Kitchenaid mixer arm down too far
You really ought to be giving us a model number for correct information but if it is a tilt head model then raise the head all the way up and look from the front in to where the motor hinges on the pedestal. There will be a screw there right in the middle. You turn it anti clockwise to raise the beater up from the bottom of the bowl.
KitchenAid Parts
Given the age of a 3-C stand mixer, finding additional parts for it will be exceedingly difficult. The best recommendation is through E-Bay or antiques stores - a specialty dealer. Kitchenaid parts distributors will no longer have anything in inventory for the 3-C mixer.
Trouble replacing part that has fallen out of the end of my KitchenAir mixer
Sounds like the governor has flown apart, you will need to take that black plate off the back, all the wires off it (take a photo first if you think you will need it) a spring at the bottom and 2 screws at the top. Once you get that off the broken governor will be exposed and you can lever it off with a couple of screwdrivers, don't lose the locating pin through the motor shaft.
Part required is
17830 Governor Assembly
Line up the notch in it with the pin you have in the motor shaft and bang it on with a soft hammer so that the notch engages the pin.
When fitting the back plate back on first engage the speed control lever into where it belongs to operate the switch then put each screw in 8 full turns to start off. I put each one in a couple of turns then the other one until each is 8 turns in. Put the spring back on, put the wires where they belong and fire it up on low speed. Move it up to high then back to speed 1. You want the planetary to turn 13 to 15 revolutions in 15 seconds. I let the planetary knob brush my hand as it rotates while watching the second hand on the clock. Turn the screws in to slow it down and out to speed it up, you should move each screw equally. Once slow speed is set lock up the nuts that stop those 2 screws from turning. Job done!
Kitchenaid mixer blade holder will not turn
I answered this for you in the blender dept, it will almost certainly be the fuse gear and that's machine cases apart to look in the gearbox.
Fuse gear part number is
4162897 Worm Gear
If you want to make the repair a little faster then the fuse gear already mounted in the bracket is another option
240309?2 Worm Gear Bracket And Gear
I call it a fuse gear, they call it a worm gear.
