Alan, the C1000s comes with 2 filters, and it sounds like one of them is already on the capsule. Yes you can remove the one already on. I find by gently twisting and pulling it comes off easily. The capsule is rubber mounted so it can take a little bit of pressure.

On the side near the connector you find a small screw.
Just loosin it and you can pull the connector out of the housing.
