Do the thermostat contacts attached to bimetalic

Hate to write answer to my own problem, but after showing (its THAT SIMPLE folks!) the innards to my wife, showing her how contacts do not move close 'nuf together to touch until dialed to 300F, she said, why not put a block under lower stip to raise it. Was about to, when I noted top strip appears to be merely spring steel, and she was advocating propping up the thinner lower BI metalic one, which would have stopped it from flexing as it must as temp of pan changes. SO, we brainstormed it, used her little jewelry needle nose pliers and alternately bent top (spring) strip down and lower (bimetalic) strip upwards with knob set at "warm" until they were TOUCHING, but nevertheless would separate when knob turned fully to "OFF" Since this thermostat pilot light works whether hooked to a pan or NOT, we plugged it in (no danger, probe is not electrified in any way unless maybe handle is dipped in water and salt!) and saw that light goes "on" at warm, off at "off" and further, that when we set it at 200F and hold a lighter under the probe (it is just hollow metal, not a precision device, simply conducts heat to metal strip inside) it turned off properly at what we guess is pretty close to 200F. Will add an addendum "solution" comment when we return thermostat to friends pan tomorrow and cook something!! No electrical degree, just a wife who got tired of me not fixing her firends pan and started unscrewing things until I got aggravated nuf to do something w/ it. Happy New Year. Rival electric skillet # S16g-CN

I have just taken apart the probe / thermostat of this model for a friend. I am an amateur, but it is such an amazingly SIMPLE piece of equipment (in the non-digital, i.e. mechanical thermostat model I'm looking at, that it is clear that the light will be "on" if the thermostat is sending electricity to the heating element, WHETHER OR NOT the element is broken or even connected to thermostat: In other words, if the light is not going on with thermostat knob in any position but OFF, the problem is with the thermostat: The pilot light goes on even if thermostat is NOT PLUGGED INTO the pan; when functioning properly, which one can observe on working pan even w/o taking it appart. But if you have digital model, this will be of less sure use to you, tho the way two yellow wires go to pilot light INDEPENDENT of power returning from pan itself, it suggests the same may be true with all their models.

I am hunting an electric skilet cord for a black

Hi ,,, replacement cords for counter top appliances can be found at most appliance or building supply stores. Try Home Depot, Ace, Lowes. Take the unit with you to make sure you are getting the correct cord.

Inoperative Rival model # S16

the thermistor is low cost relative to the pan. If you can idenify it by the component number you can replace it or maybe find an equivalent. How did you get the controller apart?
