Always use ONLY fresh fuel... (page 32 of owners manual) it is very easy to forget about because HONDA is such an awesome machine... but EVEN MORE LIKELY...

HONDA has a very sensitive self protection device

Your oil pressure cut off switch could be responding to the WRONG OIL...
DIRTY OIL...
LOW OIL or WORSE... OVERFILLED Oil.

Check it out in your owners manual. ((below) http://cdn.powerequipment.honda.com/pe/pdf/manuals/31Z07610.pdf

i would suggest an inspection of the brushes on the generator rotor .these usually come as a "brush box" similar to a car.containing a regulator and sprung loaded graphite conductive brushes, which may have worn low , reducing the residual current applied to the primary coil.

S.A.E grade 10w-30 multi grade oil its recommended from 60F and up.
For temp lower than 60F use the 20W oil

if its a new Gen(first operation). replace oil after 20Hr.

Other than that in normal working environment replace oil evry after 100Hr.

Dusty area shorten the time of replacing oil and cleaning air filter.

remember not replace hot oil or if the Gen runing !!

The first thing I would do is drain out the old fuel and put in fresh.

Hi Richard
Not even the Service centres get circuit diagrams any more.
Proprietary Info I guess.
Is this a Sign Wave or Inverter Model.
Dont Flash the fields.
Probably an Alternator Stator controlled by the Rotor Field via brushes & controlled by regulator.
Then it may connect to a Semiconductor Solid State Inverter to give clean power for electronic devices

Good Luck

these carburetors are not adjustable any longer. my guess is that the carb my look perfectly clean but some of the jetting may not be perfect. When it's cold, it surges, when it's warm and under a load it runs OK
If its under warranty, the dealer doesn't want to spend the $$ to replace the carb.

Hi,
I have a EM5000SX. My problem is my generator will not start unless I turn the fuel selector to off. Then crank it until it does start, turn the fuel back on. Run's normal . I run this generator for my cabin every weekend.

If it's not a bad receptacle, then one of the generator windings is bad. A Honda is worth fixing, or at least it's worth selling to someone who only needs 115v. It _is_ worth fixing. Or, it _is_ worth selling ''as is.'' // Fixing, assuming it's not a bad receptacle, will involve returning it to the factory for repair, and it will involve either a new winding or an entirely new generator section. You can call them to ask how they will handle such a repair and get an estimate of cost.

Main jet on carb is clogged. Starts when you prime but then will shut off.

Remove and disassemble carb taking pains to thoroughly clean the main jet area with cleaner.
Check the holes that you have in the bolt that holds the bowl in place - they must be clear! Spray cleaner up the tube that runs into the bowl.
