Yes, there is a "Solution" you could use in the reservoir to remove the crud. First of all, STOP using tap water. What you have is mineral deposits inside your iron from using tap water. Use ONLY steam distilled water. I usually find this at my grocery store. To clean out your iron, use white vinegar in your iron instead of water. This is to CLEAN the iron ONLY! Do NOT use to press cloths! And make sure the steam and/or water flow very clear (free from "sand", dirty water/steam or any other contaminates BEFORE using iron to press your cloths. You may need to flush the iron with water (remember, steam distilled ONLY) more than once to get all of the vinegar out. Hope this helps...
You need to clean it out, try a solution of white vinegar and water, if you can plug it in outside, do it. It usually is caused by tap water being stored in the iron and not emptied each time you use it. Once you run the vinegar solution through, rinse it out with distilled water, now only use distilled water in it plus empty it completely after each use. My iron is 40 yrs old and do this and never have a problem. I had wrecked other irons leaving tap water in it, so I know the problems it causes. I am hoping this will work for you, good luck, because it is cheap and worth a try.
Pour the water out and refill with vinegar and let it steam all of it through the holes then fill with water and let it steam through the holes to rinse the vinegar out.
Remove the top part and check for the leak. If plastic has been damaged then you must use some good bonding material to close the gap/leak. However if the leak seems to come from over filling , redduce level of water, or from a gasket on the filling part.
Please look carefully into this in the ironing position with the power OFF.
Hope this helps . Good day
I'm afraid I have bad news the wires are injection molded into the black plug and cannot be removed. I can't see what your seeing so I don't know which end of the cord your talking about.
If the the wires are broken near the wall plug end you can just cut the cord off and put a new plug on the end of the cord. You can get these at most hardware or electrical stores. Due to the amount of current an iron draws you'll want a heavy duty plug or appliance plug. Do not use a lamp plug it will not hold up.
If the cord is broken at the iron end then the only option with a molded end cord is to replace the cord. I've already check the Rowenta web site and they will not sell electrical parts to the general public. They did however offer a list of service centers, you may be able to order a new cord through them. You can find them at this link: http://www.rowentausa.com/rowenta/frame.aspx
