You must use the remote control for that.

The CT877 remote was included with several Toshiba TVs, including the 26DF56. Thus the programming codes for the remote are in the TV manual on pages 16-17. As long as both TV and DVD player have arc enabled HDMI connections and you enable HDMI-CEC on the TV you should be good to go.

That means the Source or Input has been changed to the number 1 HDMI Port and there is nothing attached to it, or if there is a cable box on it, the cable box is turned off. Check that first and then press the Source button on the television remote until you find a signal. You can check the HDMI sockets at the rear of the set and see if anything is plugged in.
