hi,

sounds like the control board. a bad solder. they cost 350.00 so your best bet is to try and disassemble and look for the bad solder joint on the control board, you could possibly take it to your local tv repair shop. here a link to the part. theres two boards one is power supply noise filter and logic. inspect both, make sure you stay clear of the HV red power lines running to capacitor magnetron, use a screwdriver and discharge the capacitor to frame before you start

Probably only a 90 day warranty but you should have 1 year on parts. Check to see if it will void the part warranty if you open the unit. Or just take to authorized dealer. Sounds like the control board is out. This is part of the keyboard where you enter commands and also contains the clock. There are components on that board which can be replaced, but if it’s still got the warranty on that board you are entitled to a new one. Labor cost is not covered. Also, if you don’t currently use a spike protector on the power cord, please use one ongoing. This greatly reduces the chance of a repeat of the same problem even with another unit. Hope this helps you.

Not sure why a microwave would have a piece of cardboard in it. Maybe packing material?

Does the faceplate light up? If it does not the face plate plug may have come loose.i have seen this on several Sharp microwaves. Simply unplug your microwave, remove two screws holding the face plate, unplug the white plug carefully and then plug it back in. Hope this helps.

Which model of Sharp microwave do you have?

For the SMC1441CB, after setting the cook time, press the power level button and then the appropriate digits for the percentage of full power to use. For full power, press power level then 1 and then 0. For 50% power, press power level then press 5.

For the SMC0710BB, after setting the cook time, press the Power button until you see the desired power level displayed on the LCD screen. Press Power once to get 100% power. Press Power 6 times to get 50% power.

For the R-659YW, you set the power before setting the cooking time. You press the Power button several times to get to the desired power level. Pressing Power 7 times will have the microwave cook with 40% of its full power level.

Many current Sharp appliance manuals are available on their product page or the Sharp support page. The current Sharp microwaves are listed here: http://www.sharpusa.com/ForHome/HomeAppliances/Microwaves/Models.aspx?facet:configurationfilter=Countertop . Other appliance manuals are available when you enter the model number in the search bar at http://www.sharpusa.com/Support.aspx .

I hope this helps.

If the display is flickering I would consider it being a bad main circuit board. If it just keeps beeping when power applied could be a bad touch pad too. Unplagging the pad and reapplying power and see if it beeps with the pad unplugged that would tell you if is the board. If it still beeps with the pad unplugged it is a bad board. It may be thinking your standing there pushing a pad. Either get both or replace the unit. Prices have come down drastically. Encompass parts was selling parts for those, sorry I do not currently have their number.

A lot of these have long screws that screw into the mounting plate behind the unit. If you take off the top trim panel look for two screw heads at each side of the unit. They will screw into the supporting plate behind the unit. Make sure you support the unit when you take them loose so it doesn't wind up falling onto the top of your stove. Those long screws do not come out only loosen so don't expect to remove them. good luck

As old as this is parts will not be available, you might as well go new.
