Can i use a 4500 watt on a 208 volt system

Yes Voltage and wattage printed is on end of each element If element shows 240V 4500 watt, then element Wattage at 208V is reduced to 3375 watts and will heat 16+ gallons per hour If element is rated 208 and 4500w, then element will operate at 4500 watt and heat 20 gallons per hour http://waterheatertimer.org/Figure-Volts-Amps-Watts-for-water-heater.html http://waterheatertimer.org/images/Whirlpool-energy-smart-watt-rating-IMG_2600.jpg http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-water-heater-element.html Gene If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/gene_9f0ef4df2f9897e7

It sounds like you have a bad element, you can test them if you have an electrical meter. Turn the breaker off to the water heater take the access cover off for each element and disconnect the wires to each element, then put your meter to check for continuity and put one electrode on each screw if it beeps they are good

Replacement element part # for 83VR52-2

Look at watt rating printed on end of each element.Elements are generic and available at hardware store. You do not need special element. Just match the wattage, or choose less wattage, do not choose higher wattage.http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-test-water-heater-element.htmlMight pick up both thermostats too.http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-thermostat-on-electric-water-heater.html If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/gene_9f0ef4df2f9897e7

We aare in a home unit with a Rheem 80 gallon

1) The pressure release valve is operating correctly and the sound it made is typical.
So pressure release is okay.
Always protect yourself from very hot water that can spray out of pressure release.

2) Rumbling sound is typical sign of sediment build-up inside tank, and usually indicates that tank needs to be cleaned out.
Seems odd that a brand-new tank could have sediment after only 8-9 months.
Did somebody recycle a 'new-looking' heater and sell it as 'new' heater?
Look at label on side of tank, and find brand and serial number to find actual age of water heater:
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/WaterHeaterSerialNumberDecoder.pdf

3) Because sound might not be sediment.
You can add a comment and it will send e-mail, and I will continue to answer.
No reason to be terrified of water heater. They are very safe, and homeowner can fix electric water heater same day for a few dollars.

4) Please listen to exactly where sound is coming from.

5) If sound seems to come from the pipes, and pipes are vibrating, then the plumbing is suspect, for example a check-valve, or pressure valve, and we can talk about that when you add a comment.

6) If sound is from inside the tank, then I suggest you turn off power, let water cool, drain water heater, open bottom of water heater, remove element, and check for sediment.

The water heater breaker keeps tripping and I

Thermostat could be bad causing the breaker to trip due to it being shorted. It's either your breaker or the thermostat, more than likely the upper thermostat is bad.

I have a Rheem 82V52-1

Protect yourself.
If water heater is tripping breaker and water heater is wet, then danger of electrocution.
Turn off power.

You do not need special element. Local home center and hardware sell generic elements.
Check side of tank for element wattage, usually 4500 Watts.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-electric-water-heater.html

If fiberglass insulation is wet, you need new insulation because the insulation and cover cannot be left off the heater.
If thermostat is not covered with insulation, then cooler air will cause thermostat to mis-read temperature, and tank will overheat.
Putting a wet water heater back into service is dangerous.
Manufacturers suggest replacing flooded water heater.
Local Lowes here sells new 40 gallon electric water heater for $207.
Loosen anode rod before installing.

Water heater rheem EverKleen Model

Hi,
What you are hearing is the noise of the water percolating around the element. This usually is a sign that the sediment in the tank is getting close to the bottom element and limiting the flow of the water around the heating element. This causes the water to boil around the element.

Here is a tip about how to clean the sediment out of your hot water heater..

Hot water has slowly diminished

the lower element is located behind the lower panel. Take both screw out and remove the panel. Insulation will probably be in the way so you will have to push it out of the way. The element is round on the endand has two wires going to it and will probably have screws you will have to loosen to take the wires off. (Before you do anything, disconnect the power.) Take the two wires off of the element. You will need a cheap ohm meter. Check for ohms across the element.(One needle on one terminal and the other needle on the other terminal. If you get no ohms or your meter does not move , the element is open (bad) If the ohm meter moves, your element is still good. If you have to replace the element, you will have to turn the water off, drain the water heater, and it takes a special wrench you can buy at home depo to screw the element out of the water heater.
