Check in your device manager list to uninstall any listed as not installed properly then rerun the setup program. Only plug the printer usb in when the program prompts you. The noise is normal as the printer is seting the head position and cleaning the print head, it is also running the rollers to check if there is a paper blockage or any paper in the load tray. I get to the device manager by using the explorer for windows files, then on the Left side where the hard drivers are listed right click on This PC, choose properties. A new screen will open that is labelled System. On the top left you will see Device Manager. Hope that helps :)

First, be sure all four toner cartridges are seated properly as is the transfer belt. Close the front panel, then the top panel, power-cycle the printer and try again. If that doesn't solve the issue, it sounds as if either the actuator for the front door switch is broken off (which is highly unlikely) or the door switch itself is out of position. Getting to the switch involves removing most of the panels just to get to it; not impossible, just involved and a LOT of screws, plus a small black spacer for the top-left panel hinge. If you have any kind of a warranty or maintenance agreement on the printer, DO NOT TRY THIS, you WILL void it!! You have to unplug the printer, remove the fuser from up top, then the top panel, lower the front panel and remove the transfer belt and keep it out of the way in a dark area. Remove the hinged rear panel at the rear bottom followed by the rear panel (which fits inside a side panel, something to remember when reassembling). Now the side panel. If the switch is out of position, reposition it. If it's broken, it will need to be replaced. Reassembly is in the EXACT opposite of disassembly. You may wish to forego this and get an HP authorized tech in to do this for you. Worst Case Scenario: the DC Controller board is bad. But that's also unlikely ... possible, but unlikely. Let me know how it turns out!

Are you using genuine HP cartridges? According to HP, the two cartridges for your printer are the 564 and the 564XL. Either cartridge will work. HP does not offer another size. Take the black one out that's in there now and see what the Part # is... then do a search for it.

You sound as though you wish the printer to directly connect to the laptop via wi-fi. This is not usually the case in home networks. Most home networks use a wi-fi router to link all wi-fi components. This is because your laptop is not capable of handling the routing duties itself, nor is the printer (normally). The wi-fi router assigns the IP addresses that the devices use to communicate to the router and each other. That said, IF you ARE using a router, perhaps you are not entering the security code that the router needs to allow the device to attach to the network. If you are NOT using a router, then you still MIGHT be able to use the printer with the laptop if it has a "direct connect" capability. You would need to look at the printer documentation and instructions on how to set it up. Unfortunately, wi-fi isn't as simple as just turning it on an waiting for a connection to take place.
