Hi.

This remote is set by default to control an Onkyo DVD player and cannot be programmed to control a Magnavox BRD (See remote control in manual).

If this model has a belt that pulls in the draw, I would replace the belt

you can use tape to hold the battery cover, and if still need a new one you can visit the electronics store

The issue turned out to be that the iPod was not seated in the dock correctly. The adjustable back was adjusted too far forward so it was docked improperly. Correcting this corrected the remote issues. Everything works great now.

thanks to fixya....turns out a glob of solder needed to be removed from a new replacement part....once removed and installed my dvd player works fine.

Check the input selector on the TV, if you have audio only then it is a cable problem,
that means that cables are not connected in the right way.
