Right below the button that you press to select fabric is that black rubbery piece. Use a screw driver to pry it up and then remove the three screews holding down the rest of the retracter. Mine was getting power to the circuits so I trashed it. I won't ever buy this brand iron again has it did not last very long.

Unit has a warranty. You have 2 choices keep it or return it for another one. Personally I would return it for a new one.

Sunbeam Model: gcsbcs-212 The outlet cord was bad (pinched from falling off the ironing board) inside where the cord goes into the iron. 1. Remove Bottom Sticker 2.Remove 2 Screws 3. Pry off Sunbeam Back Cover 4. Remove 2 screws 5. Pry off Cover 6. Remove Cord Clip (2 Scews) 7. Cut Cord and Strip off ends ( do I cable at a time) Red Circle 8. Crimp back and Test.

How to fill your Sunbeam Steam Valet Here is how you fill your Steam Valet. Press the small button on the back of the handle and pull bottom of handle apart from the top half of steam valet. Then take off the white cap on the inside of the handle and fill with water to top. Place cap back onto the opening and slide handle back and click in place. Plug in and you're ready to steam within a few minutes.
