Cannot get it to vacuum.
Does it try to vacuum but never flattens the bag? Make sure the bag you are using is completely sealed on the opposite end. Otherwise, the seal on the sealer is probably allowing air to leak into the sealer. If it has a foam sealer, I've found it sometimes helps to run the foam sealer under water, squeeze out the excess water, reinsert the foam sealer (make sure it is seated all the way) and then try again to seal the bag.

How do you remove cooking oil stains from carpet
That may be very hard to do without changing the dye color. The longer it is in there the worse it will be.
1) try tuff stuff foam cleaner you can buy at Wal mart
2) if that does not work - try mineral spirits to see if it comes out. Finish with Tuff Stuff to get residual mineral spirits out
3) if those 2 do not work - this is the last ditch effort - you will need a commercial solvent. May take the dye out and hurt the carpet fibers.
How to replace the suction hose cause the hose split
Vacuum cleaner hose can be bought off the roll in some repair establishments, usually those places that primarily service the needs of trade customers.
The trouble is, although a length of hose can be bought, it isn't helpful in every case as manufacturers these days tend to weld the end fittings to their hoses making it almost impossible to separate, forcing people to pay inflated prices for replacement hoses as a spare part from the vacuum cleaner manufacturer or an aftermarket supplier.

I have just installed travertine
If you have mostly hard floors you can't go wrong with a Miele canister vacuum. They have many models out. I would suggest one with a 14" horse hair floor brush. they are german made and last for years. Don't buy a Dyson they are very harsh on hard floors and your carpet.
