The steam irons I have see have a separate button to allow water from the reservoir to enter the steam chamber. This button latches down for steam and you unlatch it for dry. Also, there is a temperature range on the temp dial for steam.

The reservoir must have water in it for the iron to make steam. If calcium from the water has built up on the reservoir valve, it may prevent the water from entering the steam chamber. Straight white vinegar instead of water may help.

The water fills through the hole on the front of the unit! Use a measuring cup and pour it in the hole....it should have a clear guage on the handle to show the water level.

Unless you have a 5 or 6 hundred dollar iron, there is an excellent rule of thumb when an iron quits working. Buy a new one. These days, irons can be purchased cheaply enough that it is WELL worth the money. Not just for the convenience, but for the safety issues. This is an appliance that could burn your house down even if it's in PROPER working order. Hope this helps!!

Usually start at the cord end to locate internal screws to get top off then down to the next layer

Strip it and inspect yo water bottle and try to close it or dont use the water you can pour the water on the cloth

You can try to remove the spray nozzle if it unscrews and soak it in vinegar or CLR (Calcium,Lime,Rust available at stores) solution. Yes or use vinegar water mix 1/4 c vinegar 2 c water, or again there are products that are made for iron cleanout but vinegar is the least chemical based and cheaper. Fill the sprayer with the solution, and the steamer also. Operate the iron on the highest steam setting and iron on a folded towel to clean it out. You may have to scrape out the scale build up from the sprayer if it wont clear with the solution.

The steam valve may be partially blocked with scale so it doesn't close properly. You can try disconnecting the iron from the base unit and flushing it several times with the valve open and then closed. If it is possible to disassemble the valve, you can clean the contamination directly. You may also find that the seal or o-ring is worn out. My mother would use only distilled water in her iron, so she never had that problem. I see from the product manual* that yours is "designed for use with tap water" if the filter is used. There's probably a limit to how much lime in the water it will tolerate, but the manual says nothing about that. Question edited for clarity. Question moved from Elna Sewing Machines No one has reported this issues, so there are no known fixes. The system is simple, just a hinge with a spring to counterbalance some of the weight. please check the pilot lamp is on and lighting, if not, replace the fuse in the wire cod. also check on the internal thermal fuse it might be damaged. if all fuses are fine please measure the resistance of the heating element and verify that the switch is closing properly

please check the distance between the live and earth surface of the flat iron. the clicking sound could be originating from a possible short circuit
