gee why not leave the bad battery out, and run on AC power
now. batteries short, leave it out. until PC runs again.
does it work now? on AC line power. ONLY ?
the laptop will run just like desktop now, endlessly (AC power ok)
next is the fan running, battery out? yes/no.
if yes, it has power maybe... some.
does the screen ever show text,? or HP logo.. small logo.
if yes that means you do have power, and the screen works
and the BIOS hot keys work : do they?
the hot keys are, F2 F10 , Esc, F8 or f11.
for 2 years prompted with that text.. its in the service manual
the hot keys.
i read you manual in 1 minute flat.
F11 is the recover hot key, does that work
does it show ANYTHING at all ?
(text or errors, )
power on an quickly hammer F11 f11 f11, over and over and bam recovery mode happens

this PC has CCFL lamps that go bad. LCD back lamps all die this old. or turn yellow.
if the screen black all the time out comes the flashligtht
see data now? F2, ESC, F11 key pressed power on.
page 112 in your free service manual
says push ESC to get BIOS,
then F10
F11 is recover your OS.

Your problem is a loose contact, usually LCD inverter cable or or the video cable that comes in from the GPU. Are you willing to disassemble the laptop to fix this? If you are not confident then I suggest you take professional assistance. They should charge you around 40-50$ to remove and re-connect the cable.

Hi,
Welcome to Fixya. To be able to determine if this is a LCD or Motherboard problem is to use an external monitor. If you will be able to see a display on the external monitor then it means that the issue is the LCD. However as you describe your issue that even if you use an external monitor it won't display a thing this means that the problem that you have is a MOTHERBOARD issue.
If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for using Fixya.

Fundamentally, it means that the hard drive or hard drive controller has malfunctioned. I'm assuming this is running Vista or Wndows 7 and that the hard drive is indeed a Sata drive?

(If it were running XP, the failure to deterct the hard drive could be caused by there not being a Sata driver installed, however, on Vista or 7, this should not be the case, UNLESS you changed the OS from what was installed originally?)

I would try to prove this by testing the laptop with another working sata hard drive and if that one is recognised in the Bios, then it comes back to your original hard drive being faulty. If this IS the case, then as its 3 months old and still under warranty, I'd take it back without tampering with it any further

During reboot you can try pushing F8 repeatedly as soon as you power on. This takes you to the Windows startup menu on versions XP thru 7 operating systems. Select safe mode and press enter. Your computer should boot up in a special mode that protects it from damage to the OS. You can now try to restore your computer to an earlier condition. If this fails you can try restoring your computer to the factory default settings in your BIOS. To do this restart your computer holding F2 key. Using the right arrow key move to the last tab and select restore settings to factory defaults. Make sure that you save your settings before youi exit. After exiting your computer will restart on its own. (Dont turn it off while in BIOS and make sure that it's plugged in anytime you are making changes) I hope this helps.

Try operating the unit without the battery.
If it works, the battery is probably shorted, and may have caused the subsequent failure of your previous motherboard.
If that doesn't help, post a reply here and I'll see what else might be the issue.

Right click on 'computer' icon

Select 'properties'

Choose 'device manager'

Look downlist to find touchpad listing 'mice and other pointing devices'

Click 'disable'. Then 'enable'.

Try again with touch pad.

You may need to uninstall the driver and the reinstall.

Hi,
Just check whether you have any hot key to disable the Touchpad from the keyboard. You can find this in your user manual or you can find out some symbol with hand on the keyboard. Press FN key and that key.

If you are not able to find this option means go through this step.

1) Switch the PC power off completely.
2) Unplug the power cord and take the battery out.
3) Press and hold the power button in around 60 seconds.
4) Put the battery in and the power cord.
5) Switch the PC power on.

Now you check whether your Touchpad is working or not.
Please let me know the status.
Thanks for using FixYa.
