West Bend 33600 Coffee Maker - Page 2 Questions & Answers
How much coffee do you put in for 100 cups? thank
I can't say how much cups but if you want to make 60 ounce coffee
Then you need 3.25 ounce ground Dunkin coffee
Let 10 ounce each cup so for 100 cups you need 1000 ounce coffee.
For that (3.25*1000)/60. =54 ounce ground Dunkin coffee
Thanks

I gave you a very good answer
West Bend 33600 heats to 178 degrees
Im sure one of the thermostats is a high heat thermostat but more than likely the element is covered with lime, I would put some diluted "Lime Away" and let it soak for a few hours then drain it and run clear water through it three of four times.
If this doesn't work for you then I would change the high heat thermostat.
After it's very first use, and it was for heating
I read your question but I am slightly confused... I see that you use it to heat water only, I presume that it is for tea or hot choc. Since you say it is new... Have you always used the perkolator parts? This unit is not designed to work without these parts. There is a thermocouple that helps regulate the water temperature, If the perk parts (the basket and the rod placed correctly in the bottom heating element) there is a good chance that is causing a problem. Try 1/2 pot of water and the parts I mentioned in place (as if you were going to perk coffee) and try it again, I think it will heat correctly and give you satifactory results. As far as the "blackening" it maybe "Brillo'ed or SOS pads to clean unless you have the plastic basket, the metal parts can be scrubbed. I hope I have understood your question correctly. Good Luck!

How to fasten heating element to pot
Had a little problem loosening the nut from the heating element, but once I got it off, cleaned all parts , went to an auto supply store and was lucky to find the right size gasket ( it was a part for a Nissan auto ) , used Permatex silicone gasket sealer, put all parts together, tightened the nut real tight, made all electrical connections, tested the pot with water, heated up real fine , no leaks , Problem solved.
My 33600 leaks were the
There is an o-ring that is in there to seal keep the seal between the spout and the level. However, that seal is not available as an individual piece from West Bend. The spout and level come
complete as one unit.
On plugging in the Urn
There is a short in the unit somewhere. It can be the power cord or it can be internally in the coffee maker. You can test the power cord before replacing it with a multimeter. Set the multimeter to OHMS. Take the power cord and connect the red probe to one connector on one end of the cord. Touch the black probe to both connections at the other end. You should only get a reading on one of the connections. Repeat this with the other connector. If you get a reading on both connections then the power cord is shorted out and must be replaced. In other words you should only have continuity on one of the 2 wires in the power cord. If it shows continuity on one connection on one end of the cord and 2 connections on the other end you have a short.
We have 1 unit that doesn't heat up and the other
1 unit doesn't heat remove power; replace the thermal fuse: it looks lik a a bullet with a wire on each end; it is connected to the heating element radio shack sells them.
2 unit remove power; locate the short in the heating element wiring using an ohmmeter
Is our West Bend 33600 commercial urn 100 cup
As far as I know it does not have a spring. (At least the one we have where I work doesn't have a spring and it seems to work fine without one. But the urn was there before I started, so maybe at one time it had one.) Replacement parts are available
here, and they list a stem but don't mention any spring.
Hope this helps. Thanks for using Fixya!
