Acer Extensa 5420-5687 laptop won't turn on
Okay, Here's the deal..... I recently had the same problems with my friends' Acer Extensa laptop and here's what I did to fix it. I narrowed the issue down to two culprits 1. Overheating, 2. Defective Motherboard. I have fixed the problem but I takes time, patience and some technical ability which may not be available to some. :(
(Swapping out the motherboard MAY fix the problem but if the defect is in the manufacturing process then the problems could return). Here's how I fixed it...
While in the process of disassembly I noticed a small electrolytic capacitor that had seemingly broken off and had become wedged between the frame (<ital>very lucky! this gave me the clue I was looking for!</ital>). This made me think that it had broken off the motherboard. I proceeded to disassemble the laptop and found the location of the missing capacitor (there are two located right next to each other on the board) and was able to re solder the capacitor back onto the motherboard (could it be a manufacturing processing defect thats causing these to break loose? ). Mine was broken off due to what looked like bad solder joints. Your capacitors could still be attached but have weak solder connections. Also while i had access to the motherboard, I used the opportunity to clean and re apply the heat sink compound to the CPU and thoroughly clean the fan vents. I then reassembled the laptop and EVERYTHING has been running fine now for the last 3 days. Total time was about 4hrs and it cost NOTHING to repair. GOOD LUCK :)

Are sure it is the laptop? turn off router and try to get any other wireless, if not try to turn your router in wireless if it is possible and recheck for other routers near. Doesn't run on ac power
That typically happens because the Fuses, they look like, zero ohm surface mount resistors, close by the power input jack, somewhere usually, have "Blown". Or sometimes it is the actual "Switch" inside the actual power jack, that some have, other times it can be the "Sensing" IC that "Sees" the battery, and "Talks" to the chip in the battery. and routes the power to the PC, battery or both. Use a meter and check for open circuits. Also look for cracks in the PCB traces by the jack, sometimes movement of said jack fractures the solder and that cause problems, sometimes just re-sweating the solder, on all the connections on the jack, again works wonders too. Check there is a light comming on the charger pack, if there is you will need a new connector piece for the end on the power cable that plugs into the power socket on the lap top, plug the wire into the laptop and give a little wiggle to see if you can get the charger light on the laptop to light up. If you do then it will be the power socket on the laptop mother board, this requires the whole laptop to be taken apart in order to resolder the socket, your better off taking it to your local pc repair shop for this repair.
How to fix media problems
Go to device manager and right click on the audio device and select "Update Driver". That may work. If it is not in device manager then you will have to get the Audio driver installer from the manufacturers web site
My acer beeps twice on start up and then shuts
Hi, well firstly let me tell you that these "beeps" which you hear is in fact "codes" that tells us about the status of the PC. There are different types of beeps depending o the BIOS manufacturer such as Phoenix,Award etc
In your case the two beeps is related to RAM memory error. The computer is waiting for user input. Probably you upgraded your RAM recently & the PC is waiting for your input in BIOS & is shutting down automatically. Power on your computer, hold "F2" key to enter BIOS & "Exit saving changes".
Well, dear your problem will surely be solved! Cheer up....

I'd guess that it's the CCFL (backlight bulb) going bad. What points me in this direction is that you mention that the backlight (when you're able to get it to turn on) isn't producing bright white light (and pink is one of the colors that normal fluorescent tubes produce when they're failing). You're in luck because CCFL backlighting isn't the most difficult thing in the world to replace (if you can handle delicate electronics) and you may just be able to hack together some LED backlighting for yourself while you're at it. There are a few reasons that LED backlighting is better than CCFL but the most important is that LEDs last pretty much forever.
There are a number of video tutorials on YouTube about replacing the backlight of an LCD display and a few of them detail the installation of bright-white LEDs in place of CCFL backlights. If soldering and math aren't your strong suits a drop-in replacement for the CCFL tubes should be fairly easy to find online...
