How do i wire the transformer? there are four
ther will be four wires but they will ahve all colours
blue black negative red brown for posityve green yellow earth and white may be anothe r earth
any way try and see the colour on the tracks and join appropriate and each wires to them
maybe white and yellow can be joined together
it will not arise any problems by doing so
Want to replace trucks on
Go on google and look up, "lionel train parts." you will get numerous hits for parts. Some will list them on the site for sale, some will require you to call for the parts.
You can order a set of trucks with the pickups on them.
You will need to be very careful removing the trucks that are on it. They are riveted on. You need to drill them out very carefully.
When you put the new trucks on you can put them on 1 of 2 ways. You can buy a rivet gun from Lowe's and the right size rivets and rivet it back on, or you can use small machine screws and lock tight so that they can be changed if need be.
I figure you are doing something similar to what I have recently done. I picked up a linoel train set, and the caboose was not lighted, but inside had a spot to put a bulb and wire everything up but the trucks did not have pickups.
I ordered a set of trucks with the pickups and I replaced them how I instructed, and just used machine screws. Works great and looks good.
Make sure if you use screws to use lock tight because other wise they will loosen up and come apart over time.
Forward runs good but reverse dosnt work so good

You will need to perform the following :
1) clean any and all electrical pick ups (with power off)
2) check, clean, and re lubricate gearing on locomotive
3) check switch on fwd and rev for contact and dust.
4) please note that sometimes this is a really good excuse to buy a new locomotive or upgrade to a BIGGER set.

Lionel 313 bascule bridge
It sounds like the counterbalance spring is loose or disconnected. I would rather add weight to the counterweight box to take some load off of the motor...Use fishing sinkers, one or two rolls of pennies or equivalent. Also do not overtighten the spring you will warp the base of the bridge.
