Canon MV600 Mini DV Digital Camcorder "drivers imac" Questions

Hi I've connected a firewire cable between the handycam and my new iMac. iMovie/iMac doesn't recognise the connection. Are there settings on the Handycam that need to be made for transfer to the iMac?
