2008 Suzuki Boulevard C50T - Red "oil" CHEC flashes when bike is started then goes away. We purchased the bike with 1400 mi on it (owner passed away), bike sat for about a year. We had the oil changed. Bike runs great...no problems as far as we can tell.

The sensor could be bad. More likely is an oil pump gone bad. Has the oil filter ever been changed? It may be restricting oil flow, thus activating the oil light.
If you did not have the red FI light come on, this is most likely a nuisance problem that the '05s had, due to electromagnetic interference from the coils on wiring that was routed too close. The service bulletin is explained here: http://www.volusiariders.com/60-help/189776-chec-lcd-display.html
My handle is "Yvwi" on there also. You can see that is fairly simple to splice a new wire in and route it as recommended.
either get a bike lift or centre stand or lean the handlebar against a wall, you will find a spot where it is close to verticle.
leave the side stand down so it cant fall on you if it over balances away from the wall
