    Thanks for all this good info. I haven't changed the battery yet but will let you know how it goes.

I had a similar leak of oil into the starter motor on a 550 Honda. There might be a faulty oil seal hiding in there . It was cheap to fix once I found out where the seal was . Look in the manual . There must be a diagram .Mechanics is just paying attention to the manuals.
