Working on Suzuki Savage 1987. Newly purchased with fuel problem. Gas is coming from breather hose from top of engine and dumping into air box in huge volume. Starts doing this after a few seconds of running. I am not a novice and do not have a book for bike this is a very weird problem. I suspect it is simply a mix up in the lines on bike????? any help?

SOURCE: Overheating

Well you need to verify the stuff already mentioned. Sparkplug, and coil etc.
The problem is likely the the coil and just needs to be replaced.
If the plug show signs of lean mix, it could have been that way for a long time (big headache).
If you just got the bike you need to kown something about troubleshooting to isolate the issue.
Makesure the oil is up. - too low could lead to a scrapped engine.
Makesure the oilpump is working.- no pump means no oil moving will lead to a scrapped engine.
Makesure you have the correct oil by doing an oil change. - bad, wrong, really old oil could mess the filter(clogged). Check filter for grit, metal, cream - if I have to explain why... then you need to give up trying to fix it yourself and pay/pay/pay for someone who has the skills to fix it for you.

If you must do it yourself, buy the Clymer manual and read.
Search the net and learn.
Get a friend to help show you how to troubleshoot the issue and fix it.

Good Luck!

SOURCE: Lost gas cap key for 1987 Suzuki Savage. Any way

Get your key code off your helmet lock. Check your owners manual in case the original sales man was nice enough to write it down. Call original dealer just in case they are nice enough to keep a record of the key code.

I have a 1987 Suzuki savage 650 ls starts right up but misses when you throttle it cleaned carb cleaned fuel petcock and got a new spark plugs can you please point me in the right direction could it be...

Hi, the bike starts this is good, now please ask yourself this question: - Did the bike run well the last time I rode it? If yes did you do anything during that time i.e. fill up with fuel. If the answer is yes it could be bad fuel is the problem. If the bike was working OK you did nothing and the problem started the next time you started the engine I would try the pilot air screws (PAS) for the correct adjustment. Try also removing the PAS and cleaning out the holes they fit into. Dirt or muck on the PAS or inside the holes will not help your bike to run correctly. Last resort get the timing checked if everything above is OK. Hope this helps.

I have a 1986 suzuki 650 savage the carb seems to have a problem. It started flooding gas coming out the over flow. I took it off and took the float cover off and replaced the needle needle set and float....

Yea these carbs can be a real pain sometimes to get right. First thing you need to do is varify the float seat is working and totally stopping all fuel flow.... and all the jets, main, pilot and choke circuit are absolutely clean. Bench test the float needle valve by connecting a hose to the carb fuel line nipple and letting gas gravity feed as it would in a run position. if it tests ok, remount it on the bike...
i'm guessing you have a vacuum petcock on this year model? If you do, it needs to be inspected.
In the "on" position you should have no gas flow coming through the petcock, In the "prime" position it free flows. If there is a hole in the diaphram the engine will **** gas and not air (vacuum) through the hose and it will flood. If you don't have a vacuum line on your petcock then it is a different kind. Be sure to check your crankcase, it could be way past full with gas that has entered, dont start your engine like that...drain it all out. make sure the air filter is dry. You will have to replace the spark plugs...a gas soaked plug won't fire.
Good luck, i hope this helps.

My Suzuki Savage 650 backfires when I cut the engine also pops when I let off the throttle at high speed How can I fix It ?

    Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Sounds like a very lean mix; confirm by checking the sparkplug tips. If the burn is very light brown to almost whitish, then it would be lean - too much air, too little fuel. Check for an air leak in the air filter box/enclosure. This would also happen if the air filter has been replaced with an aftermarket free breather (like K & Ns) or the exhaust has been replaced and no jettings done.

    Postback results of initial checks.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

I HAVE 1996 GSXR 750 WITH EXTREMELY LOW MILEAGE AND OVERALL GOOD SHAPE. HOWEVER I FILLED THE TANK YESTERDAY AND DID OVER-FILL. FUEL HAS BEEN LEAKING OUT OF THE GAS TANK BREATHER HOSE FOR A DAY AND A HALF...

If its a slow leak. Yes Normal. If its pouring out. you might want to check your fuel lines. If it continues to come out you should replace your gas lines immediately.

    Fuel switch

The fuel switch has three positions:
The arrow on the handle points to the position selected.

ON = Normal operation setting. Fuel will not flow through the hose to the carb until the engine is on. Gas in the carb bowl is used to start the engine. The arrow is DOWN when in the on position.

PRI = Fuel flows through the hose to the carb at all times. This setting is used if the bike has been sitting around and the fuel level in the carb may be too low to start the engine. For safety use this setting only to fill the carb bowl with gas or for brief testing.

RES = If you run out of gas, this setting will provide extra gas so you can hopefully find more.
