The Sportster does not have a dip stick for the transmission/ primary oil. You just pour one quart of oil in through the upper inspection hole.

On a Big Twin, there is a chrome endcap on the right side of the transmission. In the end cap, there is a plug that usually takes a large hex key or Allen wrench to remove. It has the dip stick on it. Stand the bike straight up to check the oil level. It should be between the two lines on the stick. The transmission holds 20-24 ounces of transmission lube.

Good Luck
Steve

How do i know the engine oil is full from the gauge. engine oil light on especially when still warming

When the ngine is cold check your oil level, it should be full according to the dip stick. If the dip stck reads full then you could have a blockage in the system (filter et,,) or the guage is defective. Hopefully you have changed the oil according to the required maintenence schedule, if not that could gum things up.

Volvo S70 Turbo..Just had head gasket replaced. I'm getting white smoke out the exhaust, white smoke out the dip stick and pressure at the oil fill cap. The oil at the dip stck seams a little foamy. Oil...

Not good. Someone didn't put it together right or something came apart. It's burning oil. Check the inside of your tail pipe. If it's wet and oilly then you are burning oil. Oil foaming is from compressed air getting to it. You will have to recheck everything done when head gasket set was replaced.
Good luck and thanks for your question and I hope my suggestions help. burdfrenzy

Transmition add gear oil refilling

Automatic? Through the hole where you check the trans fluid (dip stick). Warning: DO NOT OVERFILL!!! Overfill will likely result in damage to the trans and possibly a fire when the oil over heats and runs out of the dip stick hole and falls onto the hot motor.

Manual? There is a hole on the side of the box. Hole is plugged with a 1/2" pipe plug or similar. You will have to pump the 80- or 120 weight oil in as the hole is high on the box and will not allow you top put the container high enough to allow gravitity to assist you with this.

Manual transmissions rarely need oil ... remove the plug and put your finger into the hole. When you take your finger out ... there should be oil on it.

How do i refill the transmission oil in my 1997 Micra auto (1 ltr). Can't find the cap.

Hi: To Refill your Auto Transmission with Tranny Fluid, There is NO CAP, Look For a Dip Stick Similar to your Oil Dip Stick. You Refill your Transmission where the Transmission Dip Stick comes out of a Tube. You'll Need a Funnel that Fits inside the Transmission Dip Stick Tube. This Should Resolve your Question. Please Vote and That actually sends me How Well I have Helped You. Where under bonnett do i find the gear box oil dip 94 vitara

For a manual gearbox, there isn't a dipstick. There is a plug on the LH side of the diff housing part of the gearbox, just rearwards of where the LH driveshaft leaves the diff. Remove this plug, and the box should be filled to this level. This needs to be done on a level surface. If changing the oil, about 2.5 litres will be needed after draining the old stuff.
