unless its some oddball reverse polarization, neg goes to ground
even on early Japanese 6 volt bikes. Only time I've seen positive ground was on some early British cars (figures)
What do you mean by pressure? Are you saying that the back brakes don't work at all? If that is the case you will need to bring it in. It could be any number of things from brake fluids to the bikes actual mechanical structure.
Remove the switch and detach at the harness connector. If the bike starts now you have bypasses it. If it doesn't start you will need to make a jumper wire and connect that to the harness where the switch used to plug in. Which method will work depends on if it is set up to be normally open or normally closed to run. One of these two methods will work for you though.
you do have an ignition or it wouldnt start and run, even with a push start, maybe you want to install a kick start, or an electric starter, either way, look up the maker of your quad on the internet, and check their different starting options
This is a possibility. The header says you're working on a 1979 XLH 1000cc Sportster. This is not a 250cc bike and it takes a good battery to start and engine of this size. I've never seen a CCA rating on the battery requirement in a service manual but it does say that the battery should be capable of at least 32 Ahr.
