Gas is coming out of the overflow tube - 2002 Suzuki VS 1400 Intruder

yup to overflow. if its leaking you need to clean your float shutoff valve .

If you are saying the fuel is leaking out of the carb overflow tube it would likley be that the float and/or needle and seat are stuck or defective

Where exactly is it coming from. Easiest way is to clean up the bottom and try and follow it up. The carbs have hoses that gas will leak from if there is a problem with them. A stuck float valve will cause your overflow tube to drip gas when the petcock is on. Also, if your gas tank is overfilled or on a hot day, sometimes gas can come out of that overflow tube as well. Figure out exactly where it's coming from first. Or take a picture, that will help. If it is the carb overflow tube give the carbs a good whack with a plastic handled screwdriver (a big one) and that may release the stuck valve and allow it to do its job, which is closing off fuel. Other than that, the only other cylindrical thing I can think of would be the brake master cylinder, which would also drip a clear-ish liquid, that resembles gas, but doesn't evaporate at all. It is essentially hydraulic fluid. I hope this helps.

If you have gas coming out of the overflow tube, you need to make sure the float valve is shutting the gas off properly. The float height would have to be awfully high to cause gas to come out the overflow. You might be able to do it on the bike but it's a lot easier to do off the bike. Pull out the float valve and inspect the tip. Make sure it is smooth with no evident nicks or deep grooves.

is it an overflow from the carb? gas will only be in one of 2 tubes and they are the fuel line from the tank and the carb over flow. unless you have an electronic fuel pump then tubes go from tank to pump to carb. if its coming from the overflow then you are getting too much fuel into the carb float chamber. you may have a sticky float. thy getting some Berrymans B12 fuel additive and putting double the doseage in the tank. run engine til hot then leave it to stand overnight. this should break down any gum/varnish that has built up in the system

has this been in storage thru winter?

The overflow tube coming out behind the swingarm? If that is where it is coming from sounds like your float in one of the carbs could be stuck.

The usual culprit is a blocked vent tube. Verify it's open. The usual indicator is either a pressure release when you open the gas cap, or a vacuum "sucking" noise when opening it first thing in the morning. On a carb equipped bike, the carb overflow lines will leak, but in a fuel injected bike like yours, it'll be out the overflow vent. The next time it begins leaking, open the gas cap. It should stop immediately as pressure inside is released. Good luck.
