Replace the fuel
clean the carbs
change the oil
new plugs
clean air filter
check the valve clearances( if any are really wide a valve may be stuck open)
I assume you have already fitted a new battery

2001 suzuki katana is runing through gas very quick, also, every time i stop and a light i smell gas

Sounds like one of your cylinders isn't firing. That would lead to a rough idle, hard to start, loss of power and smell of gas.
Causes include:
Bad sparkplug
broken plug wire
other broken wire
problem in fuel delivery

OmI just bought a 600 katana. the bike has been for a while, maybe as much as 3yrs.what should I do 1st before attempting to start.should I change oil & filter, clean gas tank ete.

I would definitely do an oil change and drain and clean the gas tank and filter
might be good to check out the tramission fluid and crankcase oil as well if it has been sitting for so long.
Remember to but new gaskets for any covers you remove to do this work

I have a Katana GSX 600F, 1993. The carb have been cleaned, a tune up has been done. Spark plugs, air filter are also new. After a 15 min drive and when the bike is fully warmed up, it dies. Another issue,...

indicates a fuel problem
wide open throttle and back firing indicates low float level or fuel flow problems
check for tank vent is working as it could be a vacuum forming in the tank preventing full fuel flow

Having problem keeping 1999 suzuki katana running when starting it up what can i do please help

Check petcock for fuel flow from the tank. if you have flow. Make sure your carb jets are free flowing. Check the degree range on your float springs. Make sure your carb airfilters are clean and free flowing, I order for a motor to operate it need fuel, fire, and air.
