What is the neutral switch for ? and how do i remove the switch to replace the old one. on my 1999 yamaha road star silverado 1600

the neutral switch is to tell you its in neutral and of course stop people riding away with the stand down in gear, it automatically cuts out when the stands down in gear but wont in will be down the bottom of the engine usually on the left hand side and have one wire going to it which goes to earth when in neutral and lights up the neutral light indicator bulb.

2006 rt 1200 wont start new battery neutral and first gear dont show on dash

The fact that the neutral light does not show up on the dash may indicate that the gear position indicator is not calibrated correctly. Does the bike start with the clutch pulled in?

All the gear indicators PRN321 on th dash of my 87 Tornado are flashing, what gives?

The gear selector switch is either out of adjustment or it is bad. Loosen the two bolts holding the gear selector in place and turn it slightly to see if the display stops flashing. You will have to manually shift the transmission lever at the switch into neutral, and then turn the switch until the display says neutral. Tighten the bolts and then check all gears. It's also possible the shift cable could also be out of adjustment. Does the display change if you simply wiggle the gear selector lever?

I'm having the exact problem! To get it in gear, turn key to unlock, put in neutral, start then in gear. That's as far as I've gotten with a solution to at least drive it. Next will check the brakes...yeah it sucks! Hope there's better advice commong...
