Question about 2001 Yamaha XVS 650 Dragstar Classic
you may need to do some drilling if you know how if not you should take it to ur local motor head and he can re size the drilling for ya. i have a background in cars but motorcycles are the same just smaller engines pretty much

First I would change all the spark plugs, and if that didn't make a difference then it sounds like the coil(s) are warming up and breaking down........when it starts to skip take a good pair of pliers with good rubber on them and pull each spark plug wire, when you get to the one that the running doesn't change then I would replace that particular coil

the best battery replacement for your bike would be a low-maintenance sealed battery. Sealed types last longer but they are expensive. XVS650 is a fit but make sure you specify if its either a custom or a classic, they get confused by these.
I"d recommend the linbar by lindby customs for the engine guard. THey're practical.
Hope this helps,
