Firstly, when riding this bike do not ride past the splutter, this could be for. Number of reasons, ignition breaking down, wrong grade of spark plug ,fuel air mixture as an event of worn or damaged crankshaft seals, cdi ignition moduel, coil, ht lead arking out,does this have the original exhaust? Maybe it needs re jetting, has this bike always behaved like this or did the fault develope slowly? the list goes on

Sounds like you are flooding the engine with gas. Put in a new spark plug then twist the throttle one time to prime the cylinder. Now get your hands off the throttle and give it a few kicks. Each time you twist the throttle the power valve gives a shot of gas. Too much can flood the engine quickly.

if you are turning to open up the valve for more power then you are making a mistake. power valves open the upper exhaust ports to allow the exhaust gas to exit faster being pulled by the exhaust pulses from the expansion chamber. by opening it and setting it in the fully open position would rob the engine of all its low down power making the bike useless below 5000 rpm which is where your power valve would start to open, it would also waste fuel as it would be sucked straight into the ex possible causing lean running conditions .

servo valve sounds like it needs adjust or the power valve adjusting do you have a manual ?

Your barrel? LOL. Sounds like the valves need to be gone through. I would suggest taking and valve train apart and put it back together correctly then go from there.

i have the same problem. i have recently bought a 1998 dtr, but when we had a closer look at the engin, it wasnt worth keeping. so managed to get a 2006 engin. i fitted this. but the bike seems reallys slow. I then opend the powervalve. but the bike boggs out just as i get in to the power band. i was told to re jett the bike to a 260. so will be getting that done soon. will tell you what it goes like mate.
