The bike has a slightly bent shift fork. The repair requires a complete engine teardown. Special tools needed include a torque wrench, impact driver, flywheel puller, and case splitter. This repair is not recommended for the novice mechanic. There are a lot of parts involved and just one mess up can force you to take the engine in a basket and plead with the dealer to reassemble the parts. The dealer will charge you more to repair a basket of parts than if you had just let them do the repair from the start. Below is a generic diagram showing how the shift forks, ( your bike has three ), move slider gears left and right to engage other gears. MY 99 FI50 WONT HIFT IN TO 3R SHIFTS N PULLS FINE FROM 1ST TO 2ND THOUGH

If it wont shift at all, its very likely computer related. Its unlikely it could be vacuum because of its age. Their is a computer for newer trans and sometimes some of the components can fail. I once bought an accord that lost 2nd and 3rd due to its computer, shifted great after i hit the junk yard. If it shifts hard though, solenoids and valve body gasket.

My 2004 montana shifts into 2nd an 3rd but wont shift into drive and there is no slippage

That is called overdrive. You have an electronically controlled transmission, so you must have the control module checked for codes with a special tool called a scanner.

Have c6 trans locks good in 1st and 2nd wont shift into 3rd

Tighten the band adjustment to 18 inch pounds it is a stud with a locking nut on the side of the transmission it is the one located toward the rear of the transmission not the one towards the front that is the 1st/reverse band adjust replace the modulator if problem persists sometimes they stick

My 95 olds cutlass v6 3.1L sometimes wont shift out of third gear and it just completely shut off on the thruway... what does this mean?

Its possibly a bad shift solonoid on the trans itself. These trannys' 4T60E have 3 solonoids for shifting 1 for 1st and 2nd, 1 for 2nd to 3rd, and 1 for 3rd to overdrive. Its quite possible that the valve is sticking in the valve body. This can be a somewhat difficult job to do. But the solonoids arent that expensive. I would suggest a trans fluid flush and a new screen/filter and see if that helps. If you take it to a dealer the solonoid/s replacement will be around $800 or more.
