I have a 2005 Kawasaki KX250. I haven't started the bike for 3 months. and left the old gas in it. So I removed the carb , disassembled it, and reinstalled it. I went to start it and it starts with the joke on and when I take the choke off it wants to die, as if it were running out of fuel. I removed the carb a gain and double checked my work and it was clean. I tried to adjust the fixture screw and it had now effect on the problem. I tried it without the air cleaner, it made no diffrence. I then checked the fuel valve on the tank and it was clean. Like I said the bike was running great the last time I raced it.
What do you think i'm overlooking?
Thank you Jeff

Have you drained the old petrol from the carbs? Do this by way of the drain screw at the bottom of each carb.
As long as there is a spark it should now fire-up
Good Luck Hope this helps. (If it does then please mark this as 'useful') Ride Safe Bike-Doc
• The first thing to do with ANY engine that has sat for any longer than a couple of months is to dump ALL the fuel in the tank and carb(s). ALL OF IT !! You'll want to refill with some high priced fuel that has fuel system cleaners (Like Chevron with Techron) not becasue you need high-test fuel, but because you need the cleaners. It's ether that or disassemble the carbs and clean out jets you can't find much less see. Your choice. The carb kits alone will cost you about $50 so a tank of high-test is looking pretty good, huh?
• Now the fact that you tried to crank the engine with old fuel has fouled the sparkplugs. All of them. Go buy all new sparkplugs.
• If your bike has a vacuum fuel valve, then you'll also need to set the valve to "Prime".
i'd start with removing the carbs and giving them a thorough cleaning as when bikes sit for so long, the carbs begin to get gummy/varnished from the old gas.
check for blocked holes in the pilot jet & main jet and look for "hard & dried up" gas in passages. be careful of the float bowl gasket as to not tear it or you will need a replacement.
Hi, Sitting not good ! That is why the petcock has an off position. Spray some starter fluid or some fuel in the carb intakes and see if cranks, If it does, the carbs have to be disassembled and cleaned. Good Luck to you!
