SOURCE: 2004 Yamaha V-star 650, wont start.

change the coil you may not think it got hot but sometimes a coil can overheat on the inside just enough to break the copper winding. when riding hard slow down for a couple of miles to give everything time to get back to normal temps before shutting it off

SOURCE: How do you charge the battery on a 2007 Yamaha

i'm not sure if you are saying how to access it. if you can... just unhook the battery.... attach the charger to it ... be sure you have the polarity correct.... after charging it for few hours.... hook the battery back up.... start up the bike... and let it charge the battery the rest of the way

SOURCE: V-Star Tune Up

the stuff it came with is just fine. your bike shop where you buy the oil from will give you what they deem best for your bike, oil weights depend on where you are and ride. a K&N airfilter will help it breath better than the standard one but it wont do much for the performance. i have jardine pipes on mine i believe it was re-jetted when the previous owner installed them but i run a standard air cleaner and all is fine.

SOURCE: 1983 yamaha xj 650 no spark already changed the

  • Do you see spark? If not, check the side stand kill switch. It kills the engine so that you don’t start out with the side stand down. If broken or out of adjustment, it would kill the spark. Check for a broken wire at the side stand switch and coupler. Try moving the side stand kill switch by hand. If that doesn’t work then wire a jumper around the switch to bypass it.
  • Is the handlebar kill switch on? Is it shorted out?
  • Are you getting power to the coils?
  • Check the fuses. How good is the battery? Try a jump start from your car battery.
  • Check the operation of the ignition switch and all kill switches with a volt ohmmeter. Check the wiring harness. Did a wire come unplugged? Are all wires clean and with solid connections? Any abraded or pinched wires? Is the bike in neutral and the neutral light is lit up? If no neutral light, check the neutral switch and neutral switch wire on center or side casing. If still no spark, get CDI system and coils checked at the dealers shop.

Yamaha 650 vstar not starting

did you check for spark ?
take the spark plug lead off and remove the spark plug
reconnect the loose spark plug to the spark plug lead - then place the spark plug on the engine and try to start - since you can see the live end of the plug - you should see a it sparking - do not touch the plug with the ignition on - or you will get a good jolt
test all spark plugs - if not here then it is probably a fuel problem
