I have a 1986 Cavalcade that runs great then without warning stalls out. I think the fuel pump relay is bad. Does anyone know where this relay is located on this bike?? Thanks

It sputters then dies, I have to crank it over a few times before it will restart. Sometimes it will die then other times it runs perfect. Do you know where the fuel pump relay is? Or where to get an online repair manual?

Does it stall suddenly...or start sputtering as if its running out of fuel. The fuel pump stopping shouldn't kill the engine suddenly....each carb will empty and you will lose one cylinder, then two etc.
If its dying suddenly I would investigate your sidestand switch....when the bike stalls...do you ever find the starter won't immediately crank?

Looking at the online parts list at mrcycles.com for your electrical parts, it appears the fuel pump relay is close to the starter relay...which typically are close to the battery.

My fuel pump runs continually without a stop?

Sounds like a faulty fuel pressure regulator, faulty fuel pump relay, or a bad check valve on the pump it's self, I would start with the fuel pump relay, it is located inside the right rear fender area inside the trunk

I need to know where the fuel pump relay is

There is no "Fuel Pump Relay" as such, there are a set of contacts within the Fuel Pump that do the job you ask. emove the fuel pump, access is in front of the rear wheel mudguard (removed). With it out you cav remove the top cover secured with the only phillips head screw on the unit and "Clean" the contacts with very fine emery paper or a points file. Test its operation before refitting to confirm it works, if so, refit it. Remember that this can be operated by pressing ONLY the starter button, without pulling the clutch lever in, if the starter operates then the clutch switch has been bypassed and the cruise control will not work.

Wont start

toyota's have a big washer in the starter that gets all corroded and refuses to make contact,...great part is that you can turn it around and use the other side which will be in perfect shape!! then she'll start good for another 150,000 miles,....i don't know about the stalling bit,...try maybe fuel filter for that,.....these cars don't usually do anything bad, or break,....so try the simple stuff first,..good luck, and to Ashley's first set of wheels. cracklin joe,....

199 Jeep cherokee stalls without warning

Does it start right back up after it stalls? make sure all conections are tight at fuel pump, sounds like it could be loosing ground at pump, or hot lead is loosing its connection at pump. Also fuel pump relay could be getting hot and quits working.

1986 stanza starting problem clarify

You need to verify that the pump is actually working, and delivering fuel to the engine. Since you replaced the pump, you have access to the pump wiring. Pump power is usually controlled by the ECU and a relay, which is usually somewhere in the dash. When you turn on the IGN, you may hear a relay clicking. A reasonable test is to measure the voltage at the pump. If no +12v, try running a temporary wire to activate the pump, ans see if the engine starts. I suspect that the pump relay has failed, or there's a wiring failure. Not uncommon on a 30 year old car.
