HISTORY: Here is what happened last summer. The goldwing interstate 1200 (1985) ran fine. I stoped to eat and it would not start, turned over fine, but backfired loud, several times. after setting a hour, it started, stopped for gas, it started fine again. Brought it home and it would not restart - same thing. I took the plugs out and replaced them, it fired off real nice, and ran nice. The next time it did the same thing, this year the same - won't start, backfires. I was told the electrical system might be the stinker. They said the points or possible the condenser. I'm looking at the book and I do not see the points or condenser (wiring diagram) - where would they be located and could they be listed as ignition control unit, or ignition coils? I had taken the timing cover off and checked the pulse Generators and the timing marks where in the proper marks, I put it back together and ti started again - real nicely........ now the and thing no start and backfires.

Hi, they used points and condensors on the very early gl1000' but your model has electronic ignition and does not use points and condensors, more the pitty in the old days you had points condensors and ignition coils, if you had a problem it was far easyer to trace the fault, but now with pulse generators etc its more difficult to diagnose without diagnostic equiptment, and to expensive to re

I asked this guestion last year but got no response. 1998 Mark VIII runs very rough in cold weather. Started it this last spring (cool weather) ran rough. Used it all summer ran fine Please help.

Probably a lean fuel issue . Engine coolant temperature sensor reading warmer than it actually is causing a too lean mixture , restricted injectors, restricted fuel filter , weak pump or bad regulator on return systems causing too low of fuel pressure , Mass Air Flow contamination .

Headlight on my Goldwing does not turn on, my fuses and bulbs are fine, and every thing else works fine.

Check that the earth for the headlight is good. You can use a bit of cable to provide an earth for the light to see if this is the case.

84 to 89 1200s goldwings have a pulse generator

1984 models have the PGs at the back of the engine. The engine has to come out to get at them, or I think you can pull the swingarm instead.
From 1985 the PGs are under the timing belt covers. Still not the easiest to get at.

You will, a cold start problem that is.

By American it is the last thing we produce, everything else is imported.

1999 buick century limited

if your caar is a v-6 or 6 cylinder motor you might have a injector shorting when hot this is very coming on those cars and very very hard to find from mechanics i'm a ase certified tecnichian and had found this as coming problem on this cars
you can ask to a mechanic to check the resistance on the injectors or when it happens again unplug one by one and see if car runs again if it does then replace all the injectors
because shops will keep trowing parts and labor trying to guess
