My Sony Digital Handycam Camcorder DCR TRV 720 NTSC 8 mm tape does not play properly. Sometimes nothing shows up in the view finder and then if it shows the movie it is stop start and sound is breaking. I have cleaned the system by cleaning tape several times, but it does not help. Tarlock

It could be the poor internal connections.
Why don't you tap several times on the bottom of the camera while playing tapes to see if it works?

SOURCE: Sony Handycam DCR-TRV330 Digital-8 won't calibrate tapes to be able to view

hi there. i just actually had this problem right now. and heres how i fixed it :) it had the error so i took out the tape left it ejected for about 5 seconds. then put the tape back. it read for a little then errored again so it was close. next what i did is plugged the camera in (last time this error happened i plugged in the power and it fixed it) still no fix so i took off the battery waited 5 seconds then put it back on. after that i ejected the tape again and re put it in and it worked! you could try anyone of those things. and usually they work for me. maybe it has something to do with the cameras being old.

SOURCE: The no tape and eject symbols are flashing at the same time.

Those signs means Record tab on tape is ON, eject tape and check record tab and make sure to set it on Record position.

How to play tapes not recorded by Sony Handycam DCR-TRV130 Digital-8 Digital Camcorder

It is my understanding that the camera won't playback those formats, timecode or not. There are VCR type units for the HI8 and other formats. They should be cheap on eBay now...

How do I get the sony handycam dcr-hc30ntsc to show me a pictuer wale recording or any thing

If camcorder does not show live view in view finder and lcd screen but shows good picture in play back of old recorded tapes then ccd imager chip is defective in camcorder and need to be replaced.
It is not user level repair as soldering work is needed to replace ccd imager chip.
Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.

When I turn my camera on and try to record, nothing shows up on the screen.

Make sure lens cover is open, if still camcorder does not show live view then it is bad ccd imager chip problem that will be replaced.
Let me know exact model of your Sony camcorder to provide you part number info of ccd imager chip.
Thanks.

Viewing SONY 8mm Tapes -- Please help

The older tapes were shot on a 8mm camcorder and the camcorder you have wil not play them becasue it doesn't have backwards compatability with the older format. The tapes you recorded are on a digital 8 camcorderr and it is different encoding than the one you recorded the other 60 tapes with. You will need to find either a dcr-trv 350 trv 530 trv 730 ect as these have the ability to play all the tapes.
Or find an older 8mm camcorder to play your tapes with.
Hope this helps
Cheers
Al
