Question about 1994 Yamaha FZR 1000

1 Answer

Mine is a 1997 FZR 1000. I discovered that whenever i move from gear 1 to gear2 and i rev a little, it will make a loud noise like when you are on neutral and you rev it high. At that point what i do normally is to change to gear3 or gear 1. What could this problem be? Thanks a lot.

Possibly a worn selector or in the worst case teeth missing on a cog or two.
I would get it fixed before it lets you down and needs a very deep pocket to fix.

I just aquired a 1000 fzr exup.theres 2 filler caps on the engine for oil refill.which is which and where and what do i put in,is 1 for gear oil?and the other for engine oil?

Hi, there are 2 caps on the fzr1000 exup the larger of the two which is located on the top of the r/"h engine cover, this is the oil filler plug, and the smaller is infact a dipstick, the level on the dipstick should be read when the dipstick is only resting on the top of the case, and not screwed home, furthermore, the engine and gearbox use the same oil as it is a single unit,

that's a bad neutral safety switch...it's a shop repair...now, the reason it goes bad:

the 1st gear is for getting the bike moving, period...you "never" wind out in 1st gear...ever...high rpm and going from 1st to 2nd is very bad for a transmission...think about how much movement is happening to go from the bottom, past neutral, to 2nd gear...that's where most trans damage occurs...once you start moving, go to 2nd, then rev it out... remember...1st gear is for getting moving only...

My fzr genises misfires at 4000 to 5000 then wont rev past

Have you checked if the EXUP valve is working? It should cycle when you turn the ignition on.
If it's stuck in the closed position it will be choking the engine in the way you describe
