Question about Yamaha XVS 650 Dragstar Classic Motorcycles

I was on a trip. I stopped my yamaha 650 drag star (european version of the v star) and was going to back around and turn around, but the bike wouldn't back up. It rolls forward fine, but not back. I have removed the rear brake and it seems fine, so why is the bike locking up and not rolling back in nuetral or with the clutch in?

The xvs 650 yamaha is shaft driven. The bike won't back up and the rear brake appears ok.

It sounds like the chain and sprockets are worn and will not let the bike back up.

sounds major. Clanking and low on oil sounds like a broken piston ring. Suggest dealer check with compression tester rear cylinder. Replace v star with Harley if necessary.

If all the fuses turn out good especially the main fuse then you might want to check your starter solenoid. Try jumping the two leads on the solenoid if the bike starts then most likely the solenoid is bad. If it doesn't start then it could be two other things. 1- your Ignitions might be shoot. tell tail signs. Bike cutting out during the ride and bike loses power when you hit the starter button but power returns when you turn the key off then back on. 2- The Rectifier might be gone. The rectifier will cause many different problem that might have you chasing carb problems, to the bike won't start at all with no cranking
