My 2003 suzuki gsxr won't star has been sitting in the garage for three months without starting it cranks over pretty good, did I choke the engine with too much gas trying to start it?

Hi from Spain,

no way to choke this fuel injected bike in theory....but by my experience try to start the bike with fully open throttle several times, take care do not flat the battery, if the bike has not much fuel do not try with the bike on the side stand so the fuel cannot reach the fuel pump inlet.

BR,

Emilio.

1980 Suzuki Gs450L won't start. I stalled out pretty bad in 4th gear and it won't start back up after. Bike won't even crank over, just makes a clicking noise. Any ideas?

pull the plugs then crank motor you may find one cylinder full of gas and that will keep it from cranking, if it cranks without the plugs allow it to dry for a bit , make sure plugs are dry then install and hopefully GO!

I have been unable to ride for 2 years due to a serious fight with cancer (which I won). My 2003 Yamaha V-Star 1100 classic has been sitting in my garage all this time. Before I even try to start it I...

Check your tyres, it depends on how you left them as to how they'll be now.
By now most if not all of your oil will be sitting in the pan, so you won't have any on the critical parts for start up. I would put it up so the back wheel if off the ground and put it in to a high gear say about 3rd or 4th then turn the back wheel by hand which in turn will turn the engine over, it will also free up the clutch plates which by now may have gummed up and may prevent the engine from turning over.
Once it all feels good, you should be able to crank the engine over to lubricate everything fully. When you decide to ride it, don't baby it to much. Be gentle on it at first and then literally blow the cobwebs out of it. Most motorcycle restorers do this. Treat it like you would a new engine. That means, giving the bike varying situations loading it up on a hill for example by being one gear to high, revving it out a bit, and going on a long ride. This puts an even amount of stress on the engine rather than just one type.

Just bought a 1993 suzuki gsxr 750. has been sitting in a garage for 2 years. we took the carbs off and cleaned them really well, changed the oil, and air filter and we added new gas. bike starts up and...

If is runs better with full choke, then the bike is lean, check for air leaks at the carb manifold, vacumn cracked hoses, non standard exhausts, perhaps the mufflers have rusted out while sitting

Motorcycle runs with choke only?

You can try a good fuel additive such as "Seafoam" . Put it in the tank. The more the better to "clean out the carbs". Start her up and let it do it's thing. Let it just idle for a while and try to open the choke. If this does not do the trick. Then you will need to remove the carbs and take them apart and clean them-sorry. When you think you are going to let her set up for 2-3 months, run some Sty-byl fuel additive in your gas.

Starting problem

I use to have the same bike as yours 4 months ago. It is a good bike and very reliable. When using choke, do not use the throttle, just cranking it and it will start. Another way is spray couple shots of "Starting fluid" in the air box.
