The bike wont start when i put ignition on i usually here a humming noise then i start it,

Have some one listen for a humming noise when u turn ignition but don't try to start it if they don't hear the humming your fuel pump is bad

replace fuel filter.listen for fuel pump operation with ignition switch on position for 3 seconds should hear fuel pump running should have humming or churling noise if so fuel pump working if hear no noise fuel pump faulty or could have blowed fuel pump fuse or bad relay.if fuel system okay problem could be ignition timing off due to worn broken timing belt.could have faulty ignition module.bad crankshaft sensor or camshaft sensor best to have vechicle code scan first before buying alot of new parts.could have bad ECM. many things will cause no start problems i.dont know model type vechicle.could have bad spark plugs wires. distributor cap and rotor could be bad.ignition coil could be bad.

Depending on the bike of course. The Yamaha V-Stars for example have a fuel pump that make a ticking noise from their pumps. Usually they start ticking fast and slows down to a stop when pressure is built up. Rule of thumb.....if it makes noise it is working. What yamaha is this and what year is it?

This problem is not as common on the Evolution and later engines as it was on the old Shovelhead engines. What causes the problem is the engine trying to start and "kicking back" against the starter. This will cause the starter drive to disengage with the starter ring gear on the clutch while it's trying to turn the engine. The noise is frightening and sounds like something tearing itself apart in the primary.

Like I said, the Evo and later engines don't do this as badly as the earlier Shovelhead engines did. Usually, the stock ignition system has to wait until a few revolutins of the engine occurs before the plugs start to spark. That's the purpose of the compression sensor on the Twin Cam engines.

Now, since you didn't tell me exactly what year model bike or ignition system your running, I'll generalize my answer. If you're still running the stock ignition, I'd check the timing on the engine and make sure it is not set too high. If you have an aftermarket ignition system, check the timing on it as well and if it is equpped with an "electric start / kick start" switch, make sure it's in the "electric start" position. This would probably only be revelent if you're riding a Shovelhead.

Like aaid earlier, this does happen from time to time but if it's happening too often, check the ignition system on your bike. Good Luck, Steve

The humming noise you hear is the fuel pump. It is probably your starter soleniod. If you hear an electric click under the dash near the steering column when you turn the key then the ignition switch is ok and your starter needs to be replaced. This happened to me last month.

I am not familiar with Kawasaki's but with Suzukis you need to hold the clutch before yuo can start it. If this is the case and you are, then it might be the switch is defective or the wire has come loose. It might also be worth checking the kill switch is in the run position. The humming noise is the fuel pump priming and is normal

Usually the humming or buzzing noise you hear at start and turning off is the fuel pump being activated or shut down.

INSPECT YOUR PUMP HUMMING NOISE USUALLY PUMP MOTOR ARE PRETTY RELAIBLE

You didnt mention how you tried to jump it. If it was from a car battery, you could have fried a sensor. If the car you jumped it from was fired up while conneted to your bike, thats the problem right there

humming noise usually means a bad motor. how much did you disconnect when changing element?
